Yesterday THE SMASHING PUMPKINS launched this message on their
socials. They look for a new guitarist. If you think this is the job of your
life, and… you can play guitar, apply and if you’re the chosen one you’ll
join them in June on their Euro Tour. No, it’s not a joke.
Going back in sonic history looking for memorable albums…
2 June 2018
Band: SMASHING PUMPKINS
Album: ADORE
Released: 2 June 1998 – 20 years ago
ROLLING STONE wrote: “Imagine that Bruce Springsteen had released his stark
‘Nebraska’ after the towering ‘Born In The U.S.A.’ For Corgan, ‘Adore’ represents a
deflating of expectations even as it broadens the boundaries of his band. If the
Pumpkins seemed to be turning into stadium-rock behemoths on their last tour,
the new album presents Corgan, bassist D’Arcy and guitarist James Iha as pop
changelings who are bolder, quirkier and more versatile than anyone may have
imagined.” Full review here – Score: 3.5/5
TURN UP THE VOLUME says: “Instead of copying double cd bestseller ‘Mellon
Collie and the Infinite Sadness’ frontman Billy Corgan went for a softer, more
reflective and more sensitive approach to deal with his demons. ‘Adore’ is
an underrated work of vulnerable profoundness.”
