TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS Released Their Self-Titled Debut LP This Day 48 Years Ago

Back in time

9 November 2024

Legendary Americana rockers TOM PETTY (1950-2017) and his HEARTBREAKERS
released their self-titled debut LP this day 48 years ago, on 9 November 1976.

The album received little attention on its release in the US. It peaked at No. 24 in
the UK following a British tour, and the single Anything That’s Rock ‘n’ Roll became
a hit in GB. After nearly a year and many positive reviews, the LP finally reached
the American charts, where it got to No. 55 in 1978 and eventually went Gold.

Pitchfork: “Despite featuring two of the band’s most enduring hits, Tom Petty
and the Heartbreakers’ debut is best remembered as a sketchpad for ideas that
came together later.”
Score: 7/10.

All proceeds will go to The Midnight Mission, an organization founded in 1914 that offers paths to self-sufficiency to men, women and children who have lost direction. More info on the organization’s actions and services here. Discover the steamy way The Dollyrots honour the swirling artist Petty was, right here…
