Daily noise that works faster than a stream of caffeine
21 April 2025
Last weekend and the weekend before it was Coachella Festival 2025 (Coachella Valley, Indio, California) time. One of the headliners were Californian veteran punks GREEN DAY.
Watch them explode on their classic 2004 showpiece AMERICAN IDIOT (more than 1,1 billion streams
on Spotify).
Today 20 years ago, on 21 September 2004, megastar punks GREEN DAY
released their 7th and probably their best known LPAMERICAN IDIOT.
It sold more than 4 million copies.
American Idiot follows the story of Jesus of Suburbia, a lower-middle-class American adolescent anti-hero. The album expresses the disillusionment and dissent of a generation that came of age in a period shaped by tumultuous events such as 9/11 and the Iraq War.
Pitchfork wrote: “West Coast pop-punks’ first release in four years is the political
concept album you didn’t know they had in them. While never very lyrically insightful or poetic, American Idiot is certainly the band’s most ambitious record to date, with a consistent narrative spun throughout its 13 tracks– two of which boast runtimes in excess of nine minutes. Life-changing? Not a bit, but there’s something to be said for having the balls.”
Veteran punk heroes GREEN DAY played ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Show.
Not surprisingly they performed their 2004 classicAmerican Idiot (read Trump Idiot).
But they changed the belter’s original line “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda” to “I’m not a part of a MAGA agenda” which caused a wave of Maga paranoics turning against the band.
It’s OVER and OUT for the worst USA president ever. Why? Because he was
a 24/7 Twitter bully, a totally incompetent me myself and I narcist, a deadly
Covid-19 denier, a megalomaniac, a professional liar, an autocratic, and a
big fan of white supremacy. Hard job, if you ask me.
Fortunately, the majority of the people of the Divided States Of America
had enough of this maniacal and dangerous patriot. More than enough!
To celebrate this ecstatic day let’s ask Green Day to turn up the heat
once more with AMERICAN IDIOT.
