OTIS REDDING Showed ‘RESPECT’ 60 Years Ago Today On Valentine’s Day

14 February 2025

Today 60 years ago, on Valentine’s Day soul legend OTIS REDDING (who
died in 1967 in a plane crash, only 27) released his classic single RESPECT.
A song from his third LP.

At first a ballad, the song was written by Redding himself for a singer called Speedo
Sims
and his band The Singing Demons. As that didn’t happen in the end, Redding decided
to rewrite the lyrics and speed up the pace. He presented the reworked version to the Queen Of Soul Aretha Franklin.

She recorded/released the pearl in 1967. It topped the US Singles Chart
and it reached #10 in the UK. It became her signature song and a timeless
diamond, covered by many over the years.

Happy 80 To The Eternal QUEEN OF SOUL

25 March 2022

The wonderful Aretha Louise Franklin was
born on 25 March 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee.

Happy 80 to the black heroine who started her fantastic music career at the age
of 18. She made no less than 38 studio albums. Her sensational voice, her inspiring
personality, her humanist views on life, and her charismatic looks all contributed to her status of indisputable Queen Of Soul that she was, for several generations. She passed away in 2018, she was 76.

This eternal star deserves so much more than just a little bit of respect…

Album: PAUL SIMON – 2nd LP
