‘Sun City’ by ARTISTS UNITED AGAINST APARTHEID (1985)
A 1985 song written by Steven Van Zandt and sung by Artists United
Against Apartheid to protest against the South African racist regime.
The song declared that all the artists involved – U2, Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Ringo Starr,
Jackson Brown, Afrika Bambaataa and many more – would refuse to play at SUN CITY,
a resort which was located within the bantustan of Bophuthatswana, one of several internationally unrecognized states created by the South African government to relocate
its black population with force.
