Bitter Sweet Symphony
Quote Of The Day – Here’s RICHARD ASHCROFT
Richard Ashcroft is still fighting over the shares of royalties he paid and is still
paying The Rolling Stones for a sample of an orchestral version of their 1965 hit
‘The Last Time‘ he used for The Verve‘s ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ back in 1997…
Bitter sweet royalties…
Here’s that orchestral version of The Stones’ ‘The Last Time‘
recorded back then by their manager Andrew Oldham …
THE VERVE Released Their Mother Of All Power Ballads ‘BITTER SWEET SYMPHONY’ 20 Years Ago…
When timeless in sound and vision…
‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ by THE VERVE
Twenty years ago – 16 June 1997 – THE VERVE released BITTER SWEET SYMPHONY,
their most famous song ever. An epic and timeless masterstroke. An imperishable
anthem with the lyrics written by charismatic frontman Richard Ashcroft. But as
the band sampled strings arrangements from the 1965 Andrew Oldham Orchestra symphonic recording of ‘The Last Time‘ (composed by a certain David Whitaker but
inspired by The Rolling Stones‘ song of the same title) 60s greedy Stones’ manager
Oldham and poor guys Jagger & Richards were added to the songwriting credits.
Whatever. It became The Verve’s biggest hit (No 2 on the UK singles chart). Here
we go, at the top of our lungs…
‘Cause it’s a bitter sweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
You’re a slave to money then you die
I’ll take you down the only road
I’ve ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the veins meet yeah,
No change, I can’t change
I can’t change, I can’t change
But I’m here in my mold
I am here in my mold
But I’m a million different people
from one day to the next
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
Well I never pray
But tonight I’m on my knees yeah
I need to hear some sounds
that recognize the pain in me, yeah
I let the melody shine,
let it cleanse my mind,
I feel free now
But the airways are clean
and there’s nobody singing to me now
No change, I can’t change
I can’t change, I can’t change
But I’m here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I’m a million different people
from one day to the next
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
I can’t change
I can’t change
‘Cause it’s a bitter sweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
Try to find some money then you die
I’ll take you down the only road
I’ve ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the things meet yeah
You know I can’t change, I can’t change
I can change, I can change
But I’m here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I’m a million different people
from one day to the next
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no,
I can’t change
Change my
No, no, no, no, no
