Immortal pop-punk icons RAMONES (1974 – 1996) released their stunning debut
single BLITZKRIEG BOP this day 50 years ago, on 6 February 1976. It featured on
their equally stunning, self-titled debut LP.

Although its composition was credited to the band as a whole, the song was written
by drummer Tommy Ramone and bassist Dee Dee Ramone. The song’s big dumb chant
line “Hey! Ho! Let’s go!” became a global rallying cry at sporting events.

On 31 December 1977 – 45 years ago – rock ‘n’ roll high school legends RAMONES
played a sold out New Year’s Eve concert at the historic Rainbow Theatrein London.

And 45 years later the New York City punks still thrill millions of people, me included.
This live rendition of – their biggest slam dunk in my book – BLITZKRIEG BOP (more
than 200 million streams on Spotify) – that night still is gabba-gabba-hey glorious.

To celebrate this year’s Hanukkah, the traditional Jewish Festivals Of Lights
Foo Fighter DAVE GROHL and producer GREG KURSTIN got together for
a smashing cover of Ramones classic Blitzkrieg Bop.

Grohl wrote on Twitter: “Once upon a time, two nice Jewish boys from Queens
named Jeffery Hyman and Thomas Erdelyi changed the world forever with their
music as Joey and Tommy Ramone!” wrote Grohl and Kurstin. “GABBAI GABBAI HEY!
Ladies and gentlemen… It’s the Blitzkrieg Bop!”
