BLONDIE had become a disco band by then, one you didn’t need to be embarrassed about because of the irresistible pin-up DEBBIE, loved by almost anybody on the planet (back then). CALL ME was featured on the soundtrack of cheesy 1980 movie American Gigolo with Don Juan actor Richard Gere. The single hit the top spot of the UK singles chart this day 39 years ago, on 26 April 1980. I still love Heart Of Glass and Atomic
way more but, hey, it’s DEBBIE so let’s dance ourselves dizzy…

with new wave, Parallel Lines was one of the biggest hits of 1978/9. Supremely assured, the group was unafraid to go disco, go art, or just play fine, fine pop. After years in the business, Debbie Harry was street-wise, confident, completely in control. Thousands of teenagers were enraptured – boys wanted to be with her, girls wanted to be her. With her musical partner Chris Stein, they created intelligent pop that referenced all of their 60s favourites, while embracing the CBGBs punk scene in New York that the group had grown out of.” Full review here.

Icon Debbie Harry and BLONDIE are back! The veteran pop punks will release brand new – their eleventh – album POLLINATOR on 5 May featuring a long and impressive guest list with Dev Hynes, Johnny Marr, Laurie Anderson, Charli XCX, Sia, Joan Jett, TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek and The Strokes’ Nick Valensi. The band already shared two elevating dance crackers, Fun and Monster, from the new LP, proving their comeback is absolutely relevant. And, now, after hearing third new track LONG TIME I even have to admit that their return will be a blessing. Long Time is a feel good rainbow, catchy as hell, brilliantly arranged and richly composed. Blondie will soundtrack many parties this summer… again. Pop gold!

This very week BLONDIE released, unexpectedly, brand new single FUN as first taster of new album POLLINATOR. A pure disco stomper. Quite funny and weird as 38 years ago, on 4 February 1979, icon Debbbie Harry & co were at number one for the very first time on the UK singles chart with their first ever disco pop smash HEART OF GLASS. Seems like history is repeating itself again. Whatever, let’s relive this glorious moment…
