40 years ago today, on 16 February 2025, Bruce Springsteen topped
the UK Albums Chart with his masterpiece LP BORN IN THE USA. It was
his 7th album.

It also went to No. 1 in the UK, Australia,
Canada, and in several European countries.

Born In The USA cemented his working-class hero persona for eternity.

Pitchfork said: “The bold, brilliant, and misunderstood apex of Bruce Springsteen’s imperial era… the recordings span several years of sessions, plagued with interpersonal struggle and self-doubt, bouncing between genre and mood, built on creative compromise and commercial aspiration, overexposed and eternally misunderstood, there’s really not a dull moment. With its grab-bag nature, the whole thing explodes like an encore run—when the lights are up and there’s nothing left to play but the hits; when fatigue converts into a kind of euphoria and the energy builds until it seems a little dangerous.” Full interview here. 40 years ago today, on 4 June 1984 THE BOSS
released his 7th LP, entitled BORN IN THE USA.

The album that made his star status even bigger than it already was.
The record went to No. 1 in the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, and in
several European countries.

We can discuss the fact if it’s Springsteen‘s best album ever (certainly not, IMO)
’till the cows come home, but one thing’s for sure, Born In The USA cemented his
working-class hero aura for eternity.

Rolling Stone: wrote back then: “Like the guys in the songs, the music was born in
the U.S.A.: Springsteen ignored the British Invasion and embraced instead the legacy
of Phil Spector’s releases, the sort of soul that was coming from Atlantic Records and
especially the garage bands that had anomalous radio hits. He’s always chased the utopian feeling of that music, and here he catches it with a sophisticated production and a subtle change in surroundings, the E Street Band cools it with the saxophone solos and piano arpeggios — from song to song.” Full review here.
