ROXY MUSIC – Glamourus Masterwork ‘SIREN’ Turns 50

Significant longplayers from the past

23 October 2025

Iconic art-glam rockers ROXY MUSIC (1970–1976, 1978–1983, 2001–2011)
fronted by ladies man Bryan Ferry (who turned 80 last month), released
their 5th LP SIREN on 24 October 1975, tomorrow 50 years ago.

The cover artwork features famous model Jerry Hall
crawling on rocks near South Stack, Anglesey in Wales.

Melody Maker (legendary British music weekly) wrote at the time:
“A superb album, striking the listener immediately with a force and invention
reserved only for the most special musical experiences with crispness and
vitality.”

Bryan Ferry: “Women? I have no idea. I don’t know
anything about women at all. They’re a complete mystery
to me.”

BRYAN FERRY And AMELIA BARRATT Share Magnetizing Title Track Of Their Upcoming Album ‘LOOSE TALK’

New striking strokes

16 March 2025

As announced late January, former Roxy Music luminary BRIAN FERRY (79 now) and Scottish artist/writer/painter AMELIA BARRATT teamed up for an album, titled LOOSE TALK. It lands on March 28.

Album artwork

Ferry: “The whole experience of making Loose Talk has had an interesting newness about
it. It seems to have opened a whole new chapter in my work. There’s a really strong mood
to the work that Amelia does and I was very conscious of not getting in the way of her words. Hopefully, together, we’ve created something neither could do on our own.

The nearest I ever got to doing pieces like this before would maybe be back in Roxy with
“In Every Dream Home A Heartache” and “Mother Of Pearl.” To some extent, those are
kind of spoken monologues.”

Barratt: “Loose Talk is a conversation between two artists: a collaborative album of music
by Bryan Ferry with spoken texts by me. It’s cinematic; music put to pictures. There’s possibility for experimentation within a frame. And there’s a freedom in knowing exactly what my part to play is, then being able to pass a baton, stretching out creatively and knowing there is someone on the other side to take it further. Nothing feels off limits.”

With LOOSE TALK, the title track, we get a third
preview, following Florist and Orchestra.

It resonates like, yes, a Roxy Music groove with Barratt (who reminds me
of Laurie Anderson here) + telling a story all over it. Magnetizing stuff.

Happy 78 To BRYAN FERRY

26 September 2023

The frontman, singer/songwriter and full-time playboy BRYAN FERRY of brilliant
art/glam rockers Roxy Music (formed in 1970) was born on 26 September 1945
in Washington, County Durham, England. Happy 78 to a solid gold legend.

Together with Brian Eno, he was Roxy‘s famous face. Also a smartly dressed
Casanova who had some much-publicized relationships with gorgeous models
(like Jerry Hall), and glamorous actresses. He disbanded Roxy Music in 1982 and
started (already when he was still a member, in 1976) a very successful solo
career.

Three great Ferry moments.

Together with Brian Eno, he was Roxy‘s famous face. Also a smart dressed Casanova and dandy who had some much-publicized relationships with gorgeous models (like Jerry Hall), glamorous actresses, and jet-set pinups. He disbanded Roxy Music in 1982 and – started (already when he was still a member, in 1976) a very successful solo career.

Happy 74 to legendary singer/songwriter, performer, crooner, lady killer and fashion dandy BRYAN FERRY. He was born on 26 September 1945 in Washington, Tyne and Wear, England and made an unforgettable mark with his fabulous glam art-rock band ROXY MUSIC scoring 3 Number One Albums between 1972-1982. The band split for a while, came back and split again and for several years now FERRY is continuing his long career, solo. To celebrate this most remarkable artist’s birthday here are three of Turn Up The Volume‘s favourite Roxy Music knockouts and their equally cool clips…
