TERRAPLANA – Brazilian Shoegazers Smell Like ‘CHARLIE’ Spirit

Daily noise that works faster than a stream of caffeine

16 January 2025

Band: TERRAPLANA
Who: Brazilian shoegazers who released
their debut LP olhar pra trás in 2023.

New single: CHARLIE
First shared piece from their 2nd LP, named Natural.
It comes out on 11 March. Pre-order info here.

Stephani Heuczuk (vocalist/bassist): “The composition process for this song was different from what’s usual for us,” We only had one line of lyrics when we entered the studio, so when it was time to record the vocals, we wrote the rest of the lyrics together. The song’s lyrics reflect the feeling of what we were experiencing at that moment, as well as many other moments on our journey as a band.”

TUTV: This hallucinatory outing starts with a riff that immediately brings the by
now classic mammoth one of Nirvana‘s blockbuster hit Smells Like Teen Spirit to
mind. From there on Terraplana float way up to their own tranquil space while
glistening guitars and Heuczuk‘s crystalline vocality invite you to join them on
their sonic flight.

Wake up people,
and start daydreaming
in Portuguese.

music scene, celebrated for their high-octane shows and catchy tunes. Two years ago

Diego Paz (bass/vocals): “Believe it or not, “Charlie,” and most of the songs on this record, were stolen from us. Our hard drives, all of our work up to that point, disappeared overnight. To keep it short, we had to start the entire process again. Of course, we were gutted when it happened, but looking back on it, the songs went through more deliberation as a result. The second time around, we really doubled down on some of the risks we took, and through that
we feel we made some of our most sincere music that is truest to ourselves as artists, and as people.”

TUTV: Charlie pumps up your bloodstream’s flow from the kick-off, pushed by a mean bass-riff and propulsive drums while Weezer-esque guitar riffage and agitated vocals add extra oomph to get you in an eye-blink-182, out of your lazy couch and bounce around like if your ass is on fire. Hail hail rawk ‘n’ bloody roll.
