Goth Punks SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES Released ‘KALEIDOSCOPE’ 40 Years Ago Today

1 August 2020

Band: Siouxsie And The Banshees
Album: Kaleidoscope – their third LP
Note: Original members guitarist John McKay and drummer Kenny Morris left.
Ex-Slits drummer Budgie (future Siouxsie husband) joined and two guest guitarists,
ex-Sex Pistol Steve Jones and the late great John McGeoch of Magazine (also later P.i.L.) became temporary Banshees.

Released: 1 August 1980 – 40 years ago tdoay
Score: #5 in the UK

AllMusic wrote: “Despite the personnel upheaval, the result is a surprisingly strong record: Kaleidoscope. While a number of the songs here are still dark-hued and feature bleak lyrics, they are made very palatable by extraordinarily imaginative production values featuring intricate synthesizer-flecked arrangements; psychedelic touches, spaceship synthesizer
swoops and rhythmic camera clicks.”

“There is a fun, flippant side to me, of course. But I would
much rather be known as the Ice Queen.”
