THE UNDERGROUND YOUTH Inspired By LEE HAZLEWOOD And SERGE GAINSBOURG For New LP ‘DÉCOLLAGE’

Manchester‘s psych post-punk mavericks THE UNDERGROUND YOUTH,
orchestrated by voice/face/songwriter Craig Dyer have canned their 12th LP.
They named it Décollage and will share it with the world on April 4th.

Pre-order details right here.

Dyer about the new album: “Décollage is the art of creating an image by ripping, tearing
away or removing pieces of an original existing work. My idea was to apply this technique to music. I built walls of static coated hip-hop drum samples, layers of Lee Hazlewood style string arrangements and Serge Gainsbourg inspired mellotron melodies, then I began tearing away at these beautiful, chaotic walls of noise, exposing a new sound for The Underground Youth.”

New album artwork

Dyer citing 60s singer/songwriter/producer Lee Hazlewood (who did countless duets
with super-glam-star Nancy Sinatra) and 60s/70s French controversial songsmith/producer Serge Gainsbourg as inspirations for a new TYU full length is enough to have your and mine attention, right away. Sounds amazingly cool.

And I’m pretty sure that Dyer listened a lot to The Cure‘s last year’s masterpiece
Songs Of A Lost World‘ before or during the writing of lead single YOU (The Feral
Human Thunderstorm)
with its slo-mo, melancholic synths infused progression
and lament resonance. Entrancing effort.

Folktronica Sisters COCOROSIE Release 8th LP In March – Info, Singles & Tour Dates Below

17 January 2025

📷 Kate Russell Photography

Folktronica siblings COCOROSIESierra Rose Rosie” and Bianca Leilani “Coco” Casady are gearing up for their 8th album in 20 years. It’s baptized LITTLE DEATH WISHES. It comes out on 28th March. Pre-order info here.

Press info: “Little Death Wishes is as open and tenderhearted as anything they’ve ever created. The songs tell a kaleidoscopic story of the generational hardship of women and the shattered realities of their lives, the precarious and precious nature of being human, of being done wrong by love, and a final wish to be unbroken. It boils everything CocoRosie down to its most brutal essence: turning pain into knowledge, sisterhood into polemic, trash into treasure, and recalcifying kitsch and cliché into fresh truths.”

So far the sisters have shared 2 impressive,
dance-infused pieces from the forthcoming LP.

English metalcore giants ARCHITECTS were formed 20 years ago by twin brothers
Dan and Tom Searle. Over two decades they became gargantuan heavyweights within
the genre with millions of sales of albums and millions and millions of streams on
Spotify.

is ready for launch on the last day of February, next year.

Album artwork

They dropped three preview tracks so far, with
ear-splitting monster WHIPLASH as the new one.

I have no idea what vocalist Sam Carter eats, drinks
or swallows but his vocal range and unreal stamina
is beyond belief. Of course, it helps when you have
4 lungs.

Wake up people,
go straight to YT,
and scare yourself
and your neighbours.

DITZ – Brighton’s Mean Raging Machine Prepare For 2nd LP With Storming Single ‘SPACE/SMILE’

17 October 2024

Press photo

Brighton‘s post-punk dropouts DITZ fabricated the best debut album of 2022, according to Turn Up The Volume’s ears, with their blaze & rage LP THE GREAT REGRESSION. Since then the band are on a non-stop tour.

And the tour will go on and on, as the turbulent bohemians just announced their sophomore LP. It’s named NEVER EXHALE. It’ll show up 25 January 2025.

Pre-order info here.

Press info: Never exhale’ is the sound of a band that hasn’t stopped for a breath. DITZ have toured relentlessly since the release of their first album ‘The Great Regression’. The songs that form their newest offering were written across Europe, often on off days and in borrowed rehearsal rooms. It could be said that the band treat recording and release of music as an afterthought. Often playing songs live years before their release, tweaking them as they go. The songs on the final record may change before they are ever heard as part of the album.”

Album artwork

C.A. Francis (charismatic voice/face) about first single SPACE/SMILE: ‘I feel like Space/Smile is pretty unique within the album. It’s the shortest track by a fair margin. We’ve kind of become known for using dynamic shifts to create drama in our music and with this track we tried to avoid it. It’s all about the escalation.’

SPACE/SMILE is a slash/trash stormer, pushed by fulminating percussion, fierce guitars and Francis spitting and sneering, fueled by his three lungs, without breathing, for 108 seconds. DITZ is a mean raging machine. Helter-skelter!

Workaholic THURSTON MOORE Has 5th Solo LP In 7 Years Out In September – Hear New single ‘SANS LIMITES’

New album artwork

Former Sonic Youth force THURSTON MOORE
has his 5th solo LP in 7 years ready for release.

At the age of 66 he doesn’t slow down whatsoever. Over the past months
he released 3 singles, but just now he announced that they’ll be on a new LP,
named FLOW CRITICAL LUCIDITY . It’ll show up on September 20.

More info here.

Along with the news comes another new piece, titled
SANS LIMITES, featuring Stereolab’s Lætitia Sadier.

Moore in a statement via Clash magazine: “Sans Limites” begins with a cyclic
guitar & piano figure which expands further and further with each revolution before
settling into a two-chord measure introducing lyrics intoning not only about eradicating
any limitations towards enlightenment, but going beyond limitations. The idea that
a soldier can fight the good fight. A warrior against war.

MC5 – After More Than 50 Years A New Album Titled ‘HEAVY LIFTING’ Featuring Several Famous Guests Comes Out In October

11 June 2024

With the passing of Wayne Kramer (75) last February and drummer
Dennis Thompson
(75) last month all 5 original MC5 members are
gone. Together they released 3 longplayers, including their live classic
Kick Out The Jams (1969)

Back in 2022 Kramer broke the news that he was working on a new MC5 LP,
with co-songwriter Brad Brooks (they composed 12 of the 13 tracks together),
featuring famous guests like Tom Morello, Slash, Vernon Reid and many more.
It sounds more like a tribute to the iconic Detroit band.

Kramer told Rolling Stone at the time: “We are all part of the same mindset, living
in the same world, and we all want to make a difference. Each collaborator to a person
has helped me to relay that message. Also, my songwriting with Brad Brooks has really
been a therapeutic process … for both of us. And then to layer Bob Ezrin on top added
a whole new layer of complexity that then widened my scope and my ideas even further.
It’s just an outgrowth of the band’s core ideology”

Bob Ezrin (the legendary producer of the LP): “It has a revolutionary message but also
a good sense of humor. There’s a little bit of heavy metal. There’s quite a bit of funk. But it
is a heavy record, and it’s a guitar record left, right and center — just a wall of guitars most
of the time, and mostly driven by Wayne and his ethos. It’s a snapshot of a guitar man at
the height of his powers. We all feel a responsibility to make sure that his work is heard,
and he is celebrated. We poured our hearts into the project.”

Heavy Lifting is slated for release in October. More details TBA.

The first taster is called BOYS PLAY WITH MATCHES. No idea who the singer is.
The track roars and rolls, but understandably, it’s impossible to bring back the
original MC5 kick out the jams spirit.
