Your Dog Will Never Bark The Same Again After Hearing Norwegian Darkwave EBM Act MELT MOTIF

23 February 2024

Band: MELT MOTIF
Who: Norwegian/Brazilian electro act with two albums and
subsequent remix albums in two years. Check them on Spotify.

The trio has a cover out now.

They put their hands and their synths on the 3-chords 1969 punk classic
I WANNA BE YOUR DOG
by Detroit‘s eternal raw power legends The Stooges.

Not an obvious choice. But Melt Motif‘s take is stupendous. They drenched the motherrocker of a track in their own industrial-techno bath, and the intoxicating
outcome is a zippy electro runner that works as a magnet on your senses and your
body actions.

Near-whispering, sensual vocals roll all over the groove fueled with bass riffs and
a glowing guitar fragment reminiscent of early New Order tunes. You get the feel
you’re a passenger on a buzzing speed-train feeding your lust for life appetite.

FIDLAR – Californian Surf Punks Cover JACKSON BROWNE

21 February 2024

Los Angeles‘ surf pop punks FIDLAR (Fuck It Dog, Life’s a Risk)

Last year, the trio had their boiling 6-track That’s Life out and also shared their
red-hot-blooded cover of Limp Bizkit‘s Nookie. Less steaming is another cover they
put online. Not an obvious choice. It’s the 1977 Jackson Browne hit Running On Empty. Sounds like Fidlar became a harmonious power pop band. Not a bad take, boys.

DELPREzTON – Canadian Musician Makes You Dance To His Cover Of A Massive Classic by Metal Heroes PRONG

6 January 2024

Artist: DELPREzTON

Who: The creative musical vehicle of Gilbert Morin, a musician from the Montréal
area who draws his inspiration from postpunk, goth rock, darkwave and everything
with grooves, guitars and dark vibes. He released his debut EP Dead Parrot Sketch
last September.

New track: SNAP YOUR FINGERS, SNAP YOUR NECK
A cover of celebrated American metalheads Prong (1986–1997, 2002–present)

TUTV: Delprezton‘s take turns the raw-metallic original (almost 25 million views
on Spotify) into a raw-metallic darkwavish dance juggernaut. From the get-go a
rotating disco beat carries this riff-mental roller coaster with an instant impact
on your limbs.

You can sway around your axis, headbang, pogo, and or jump up and down,
left and right like, a kangaroo on drugs when this big bang version tests the
flexibility of your speakers like Al Jourgenson‘s Ministry do it all the time. Sounds
like big fun, right? You betcha. Beware, don’t break your neck when you have
the intention to make a couple of saltos.

SLEAFORD MODS Cover PET SHOP BOYS With ‘WEST END GIRLS’ For Great Cause

22 November 2023

British rap-punk duo SLEAFORD MODS released their
12th LP UK Grim last March, followed by an extensive
tour that will continue into 2024.

The mods will have a new limited-edition 7″ single out next month – pre-order info here – with all profits going to Shelter, an organization that helps people with housing issues and homelessness.

Jason Williamson (SM’s voice/songwriter): “I’ve been listening to the Pet Shop Boys’ albums Please and Actually a lot, the music still fits this landscape so well. When Andrew suggested we cover ‘West End Girls,’ it was important to honour the track’s brilliance. So, when Neil and Chris gave the track their blessing our tiny minds were blown, and when we received their remix, it was almost too much. It was brilliant!”

You can now stream and/or watch the SM’s lively cover.

NOEL GALLAGHER Covers JOY DIVISION

4 June 2023

(BBC)

NOEL GALLAGHER was the new guest to perform with the BBC Concert Orchestra as part of their Radio 2 Piano Room sessions. Among new material he played a cover of Joy Division classic Love Will Tear Us Apart.

Why that one?

NG: “You can’t get out the BBC without doing a cover. When they asked me to do this I was like ‘I’m afraid I’m all Bob Dylan-ed out… I don’t know what to do. I would play this song, this version of it, at home down the years. When they asked me to do it, I was like ‘How can I get away with that?’ Because it’s such an iconic [song] and, being from Manchester… well, this is going to be tricky. But now I’ve got my own studio, I went and did a little demo of it and I was like ‘You know what? I think I might be able to pull this off.’ So we’re going to do ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ by the Divs.”

TOYAH And ROBERT Have A ‘RADAR LOVE’

On the seventh day – almost 3 years ago – TOYAH WILLCOX
and her beloved husband ROBERT FRIPP (King Crimson) started
their Sunday Lunch Sessions as a fun pastime while being locked
up in their kitchen due to that shit virus.

Three years later, they still have a party in their kitchen.

Last Sunday then went for a take on Radar Love (released in 1973),
the biggest hit (more than 135 million views on Spotify) of legendary
Dutch rock legends Golden Earring.

Here we go.

I’ve been drivin’ all night, my hands wet on the wheel
There’s a voice in my head that drives my heel
It’s my baby callin’, sayin’, “I need you here”
And it’s a half past four and I’m shiftin’ gear
When she is lonely and the longing gets too much
She sends a cable, coming in from above
Don’t need no phone at all
We’ve got a thing that’s called radar love
We’ve got a wave in the air

LENNY KRAVITZ Pays Tribute To His Friend HARRY BELAFONTE With His Cover Of ‘HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLIND?’

27 April 2023

Two days ago famous singer-songwriter-actor star HARRY BELAFONTE (born Harold George Bellanfanti Jr., 96 years ago in New York City) passed away following congestive
heart failure. R.I.P.

Today LENNY KRAVITZ shared his tribute to the legend, a good friend of his,
with a glowing cover of a Belafonte‘s song titled HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLIND?
A powerful soul song that was, mysteriously enough, never released as a single, or as
an album track.

Watch/hear Kravitz‘s version.

French Music Project GMBT LIFE Covers PIXIES And It’s Pretty Special

22 April 2023

Band: GmBt LIFE
Who: France-based trio from different countries, who live in diverse regions,
and who routinely meet to play music. They like to begin with bare melodies
and then improvise with various instruments and PCs.

They released a new, excellent, longplayer called 10 Minutes last year in April,
with a mix of tranquilizing piano-driven musings, cinematic reveries with spacey
Pink Floyd
-like reverberating here and there, and tender, ambient synth meditations.

To celebrate the first anniversary of the album they decided to cover a Pixies song.
They picked one of their best-known Monkey Gone To Heaven from 1989. GmBt Life‘s take is pretty special and surprising. They slowed it down, infused it with piano play, distorted guitars and whispering vocals.

Southern Country Rocker BRANDON BLACKBURN Covers Glam Legends SKID ROW

19 April 2023

Southern artist BRANDON BLACKBURN y released a remarkable country cover.
It’s his take on the mega 1989 hit I Remeber You by glam rockers Skid Row.

Blackburn “My hope is that this version of song kind of bridges a gap. I hope it reaches a younger generation of people who might not know the song, or much about that era of music, while also appealing to the older, rock-oriented crowd. This is a song they’ve heard and loved for decades.”

Blackburn‘s warm voice fits this classic like a glove and
his glimmering guitar feat makes his take stand out.

13 April 2023

(Cover of 1987 live LP ‘Dylan & The Dead)

Back in 1987 living legend BOB DYLAN and his infamous rock buddies
THE GREATFUL DEAD (1965–1995) toured together. It resulted in a live
album 2 years later named Dylan And The Dead (album cover on top).

Yesterday night the now 81-year folk/rock legend (who can’t stop touring)
played in Tokyo. He performed the Dead‘s top groovin’ 1970 rocker TRUCKIN’
from their American Beauty album.

In the past, Dylan already covered several of the GD’s
songs on stage. For Truckin‘ it was the first time.

Listen here (not top quality, but not bad either).
