Midnight Hour Whisperer BLACK VIIOLET Touched By Love On New Jazzy-Brassy Album ‘DARK BLUE’

24 February 2026

Artist: BLACK VIIOLET
Who: Alter-ego of American garage punk ‘n’ roll
turbo The Darts‘ front Amazon Nicole Laurenne.

New album: DARK BLUE
Her 2nd.

Press info: “Dark Blue sits in that liminal space where jazz, noir pop, and trip-hop overlap, but the real engine is Nicole. Her writing, her arranging, her ability to take the tension of long months on the road and turn it into something soft, bruised, and unmistakably hers.

It is a record full of late-night light, small scars, little mercies, and the quiet
ache of wanting someone who is always a few thousand miles away.”

Laurenne:When you’re doing what you love but the person
you love is always far away, you get stretched thin.”

TUTV: Dark Blue connects fluently with debut album After You, continuing to soundtrack your night out at your favorite downtown club. Laurenne‘s 24/7 songwriting production (The Darts & solo) doesn’t affect the quality of her torch songs, not in the slightest.

You’re drawn into this new, relaxing record from her first sensual whispers on ( ‘Dark Blue’ and ‘One’ with some smooth organ touches). Jazzy-brassy trip-hop musings (‘Gimme Your Love’ / ‘Not Too Bad’ / the 1936 jazz standard ‘Why Don’t You Do Right?’ / ‘No Fool Like Me’ and the vulnerable closer ‘Whiskey Eyes’) and some more up-tempo reflections (‘Take Me (Or Leave Me)’ / ‘Got Me Down’ / ‘Just Met’) intertwin.

Dark Blue is an ode to love, as blissful as it can be, it also can cause a kind of tristesse when lovers need to miss each other for some time, as Nicole Laurenne experiences when she’s flying around half of the world to entertain us music addicts.

Think of soul legend Otis Redding‘s heartfelt ballads on his classic Blue L (with a lot of Sam Cooke songs on it) from 1965. Similar melancholic mood swings, similar amorous longings, similar midnight hour lovesickness.

Black Viiolet echoes universal emotions that many of us can relate to.
That’s what pop-ular music was, is, and always be about.

BLACK VIIOLET – Aphrodisiacal Songstress Seduces Once Again With New Whispering Single ‘DARK BLUE’

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

25 January 2026

New album artwork

Artist: BLACK VIIOLET
Who: Alter-ego of American garage punk ‘n’ roll
turbo The Darts‘ front Amazon Nicole Laurenne.

Track: DARK BLUE
First single and title track of her upcoming
new full-length, 2nd in 2 years. Pre-orders
from January 29th on.

TUTV: I’m sure bootylicious Nicole Laurenne‘s days count 48 instead of 24 hours.
Only last week she announced the 4th LP in 4 years from her riff-racing band The Darts, and shared the first taster, Midnight Creep. Now comes the news of her 2nd Black Viiolet full-length following last year’s debut After You (part of TUTV’s best albums of 2025).

Oh, let’s not forget the endless touring with her gang and now with her alter-ego too.

That said, BV’s lead single Dark Blue echoes the overall flirtatious ambiance of After You. Jazzy and trippy-hoppy vibes in slow mo. Her slightly hoarse, whispering vocals fit the nightclub’s contra-bass/trumpet/drum melodiousness like a glove. Music for the midnight hours, away from the brutal reality we have to endure.

THROWING MUSES Share Clip For ‘DARK BLUE’ – Solid Stomper From Upcoming Album ‘SUN RACKET’

Clips that will have an impact on your eyes and your ears…

VIVA VIDEO

24 July 2020

As already announced several weeks ago Boston’s indie darlings THROWING MUSES led by the gorgeous KRISTIN HERSH will launch their tenth longplayer, entitled SUN RACKET on 4th September. Pre-order info here.

“All it asked of us was to commingle two completely disparate sonic vocabularies: one heavy noise, the other delicate music box. Turns out we didn’t have to do much. Sun Racket knew what it was doing and pushed us aside, which is always best. After thirty years of playing together, we trust each other implicitly but we trust the music more” says Hersh about the new record.

The band gave us three tracks so far, firm rocker Dark Blue, darksome reverie Milk At McDonald’s and the puzzling Bo Diddley Bridge. And here – just shared – is the video
clip for lead single Dark Blue.

“’Dark Blue’ starts in California, drives to New Orleans, then flies to Reykjavik. I think it ends
in dark New England at a blue table covered in blue flowers; my kitchen by the ocean last year. Sorta grim, kinda pretty.Ultimately, “Dark Blue” says that in running from black holes, you only increase their density and drawing power. They will cross time zones to hunt you down in dreams and songs to tell you that you’re loved, whether or not you wanna know that.”

explains Hersh.

Legends THROWING MUSES Return With Firm Stomper ‘DARK BLUE’ From Their Comeback Album…

New sonic impulses

25 February 2020

Legendary Boston guitar pop band THROWING MUSES led by the fabulous KRISTIN HERSH return with new music after almost 30 years. The new LP called ‘SUN RACKET’
will be out on 22nd May. “A ten-song opus of suitably wrought tales set against a wall of
sound that’s at once calm and ethereal before building into glorious cacophonous crescendos.”
Pre-order facilities here.

Frontwoman/songwriter KRISTIN HERSH says about the new LP: “All it asked of us
was to commingle two completely disparate sonic vocabularies: one heavy noise, the other delicate music box. Turns out we didn’t have to do much. ‘Sun Racket’ knew what it was doing and pushed us aside, which is always best. After thirty years of playing together, we trust each other implicitly but we trust the music more”

Here’s lead single ‘DARK BLUE’. It’s a firm stomper driven by a solid beat with a pounding guitar groove, Kristin Hersh characteristic, sensual voice, and a catchy polyphonic chorus. Throwing Muses are back and they rock as never before! Can’t wait for the album!
