‘DANCING IN THE STREET’ Cover By MICK JAGGER & DAVID BOWIE Topped UK Singles Chart 34 Years Ago…

Knockouts from the past

8 September 2019

Artists: Mick Jagger and David Bowie
Song: Dancing In The Street
Note: Both mega stars recorded a duet cover of ‘Dancing In The Street‘ (the original song was made famous in 1964 by Martha and The Vandellas) to raise money for the ongoing disastrous Ethiopian famine at the time. The greatest project to help the cause was organized by musician Bob Geldof, called LIVE AID, in 1985. Among a whole casts of big name acts Geldof asked also Bowie  & Jagger to participate. It resulted in this swinging collaboration and it became a No 1 hit single when it topped the UK Singles Chart on 8 September 1985, 34 years ago. Not really an unforgettable performance, but it was for
a great human cause and that is what really mattered.

C’mon, get in the streets and dance…

Here’s the original written by Marvin Gaye, William “Mickey” Stevenson
& Ivy Jo Hunter and performed by Martha and The Vandellas
