clutching onto remnants from the past as exploratory jazz and the echos of various
mad men soundtrack his freefall.”
Full review here. Score: 8.5/10.

BLACKSTAR is a somber and sinister farewell record. Soul-stirring
and spine-chilling. Two days later The White Duke passed away.

Thank you for the music, Starman.

DAVID BOWIE Released His Brilliant Berlin LP ‘HEROES’ 45 Years Ago Today

Back in time

14 October 2022

45 years ago today, on 14 October 1977 the late great genius DAVID BOWIE released his highly challenging and superb HEROES album. It was his 12th longplayer. The second part of his Berlin Trilogy (although ‘Heroes‘ was actually the only LP wholly recorded in Berlin) co-produced with Brian Eno and Tony Visconti and contributions by guitar phenomenon Robert Fripp. The classic lead single ‘Heroes‘ unquestionably helped the commercial triumph of the album peaking at #3 on the UK Albums Chart.

PITCHFORK wrote: ” “Heroes” is the second installment of David Bowie’s Berlin Trilogy. The trilogy, and “Heroes” in particular, show all the signs of an artist growing up, shaking off the trappings of capitalist ego and success, and searching for a soul instead. It often sounds as if Bowie is conducting chaos, smashing objects together to discover scarily beautiful new shapes.” Full review here. Score: 10/10

TUTV: Along with Low, Ziggy Stardust, Station To Station
and The Next Day one of the best 5 Bowie LPs in my book.

JOHN CALE – New Trippy Single ‘NIGHT CRAWLING’ With Animated Clip Feat. DAVID BOWIE

Daily electricity to load your batteries

2 August 2022

No retirement for the 80-year old JOHN CALE.

He has a new single out (following the 2020 piece Lazy Day).

NIGHT CRAWLING was written with his time in the 1970s
New York City with David Bowie in mind. It’s a synth trippy
and chilling reflection.

Cale about Bowie: “There was this period around mid-late ’70s when David and I would run into each other in NY. There was plenty of talk about getting some work done but of course we’d end up running the streets, sometimes until we couldn’t keep a thought in our heads, let alone actually get a song together! One night we managed to meet up for a benefit concert where I taught him a viola part so we could perform together. When I wrote ‘Night Crawling,’ it was a reflective moment of particular times. That kind of NYC that held art in its grip, strong enough to keep it safe and dangerous enough to keep it interesting. I always figured we’d have another go at the two of us recording together, this time without the interference of being perpetually off our heads! The thing about creating music is the ability to divine a thought or feeling even when reality says it’s a logical impossibility.”

Poster Movie Artwork For DAVID BOWIE ‘Documentary ‘MOONAGE DAYDREAM’

Mooange Daydream is a new documentary that illuminates the life and genius of DAVID BOWIE. It shows how he worked across several disciplines, not just music and film but also dance, painting, sculpture, video and audio collage, screenwriting, acting, and live theatre. The film reveals the celebrated icon through his own voice and features 48 musical tracks, mixed from their original stems.

The documentary’s title references David Bowie’s eponymous song Moonage Daydream his masterly 1972 LP The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, which introduced the world to his iconic, gender-bending, and groundbreaking stage persona, Ziggy Stardust.

The docu is written, directed, edited, and produced by Brett Morgen. Bowie’s long-time collaborator, friend and music producer Tony Visconti also worked on the film.

The film will be launched globally on September 16. There will also be IMAX screenings in several territories.
