R.I.P. TERRY HALL – The Voice/Face/Songwriter Off Ska Legends Death At 63

20 December 2022

Shocking news.

TERRY HALL (born Terence Edward Hall in Coventry UK), the voice/face
and co-songwriter of ska legends THE SPECIALS has passed away following
a short illness. No further details were revealed. He was only 1963.

The band broke the news on their social media.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing, following a brief illness, of
Terry, our beautiful friend, brother and one of the most brilliant singers, songwriters
and lyricists this country has ever produced. He will be deeply missed by all who knew
and loved him and leaves behind the gift of his remarkable music and profound
humanity.

Terry often left the stage at the end of The Specials’ life-affirming shows with three
words…’Love Love Love’. Terry was a wonderful husband and father and one of the
kindest, funniest, and most genuine of souls. His music and his performances encapsulated
the very essence of life… the joy, the pain, the humour, the fight for justice, but mostly the love. We would ask that everyone respect the family’s privacy at this very sad time.”

Hall
also was successful with side-projects Fun Boy Three,
The Colourfield and recorded/released 3 solo LPs. Rest in peace.

The Lunatics (Have Taken Over the Asylum)’ by FUN BOY THREE

Fun Boy Three was a side project of 3 members of ska stars The Specials: Terry Hall,
Neville Staple
and Lynval Golding. ‘The Lunatics’ was the first single, released in 1981,
from their self-titled debut LP. African beats, tribal drumming and chant-like vocals.
Pretty innovative back then. The track hit the UK’s Singles Top 20. Although it’s a song
from 1981 the title & lyrics are very relevant today, isn’t it Mister Donald Lunatic Trump?

20 January 2017 – The Lunatics Have Taken Over The Asylum by FUN BOY THREE

amercia

It’s a black day for all of us, worldwide, who believe and understand that solidarity is the
one & only way to survive decently, in peace and harmony, and are now confronted with an Idiot as President of the USA. The 1981 prophecy of FUN BOY THREE has become sad reality today. Shame, bloody shame! But I’ll keep on listening to great music, it helps…

THE LUNATICS HAVE TAKEN OVER THE ASYLUM

I see a clinic full of cynics
Who want to twist the peoples’ wrist
They’re watching every move we make
We’re all included on the list

The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum

No nuclear the cowboy told us
And who am I to disagree
’cause when the madman flips the switch
The nuclear will go for me

The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum

I’ve seen the faces of starvation
But I just can not see the points
’cause there’s so much food here today
That no one wants to take away

The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum – take away my right to choose
The lunatics have taken over the asylum – take away my point of view
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum – take away my dignity,
Take these things away from me
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum – take away my family,
Take away the right to speak
The lunatics have taken over the asylum take away my point of view,
Take away my right to choose
