DEPECHE MODE Performed Two Beauties With The BBC’s SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA

Darkwave pop Goths DEPECHE MODE released their new LP – their 15th – named Memento Mori 3 weeks ago. The first one without original member Andy Fletcher
who passed away last May – only 60 – following an aortic dissection.

To promote the LP the duo – Dave Gahan and Martin Gore – went to the BBC Radio 2
Piano Room 2 days ago, in a series of artists performing with the BBC Orchestra

They played two songs, Walking In My Shoes (from their 1993 album Songs Of Faith And Devotion) and Ghosts Again the single of the new full-length (already more than 13 million streams on Spotify).

Dave Gahan about singing Walking In My Shoes for the first time in a long while: “I really don’t remember recording that song and it was a particular time when we were all having too much fun outside of work and I guess it caught up with us, but it’s one of those songs that never gets old when you perform it.”

DEPECHE MODE Released Mellow And Tender Album ‘MEMENTO MORI’ Today

Darkwave pop Goths DEPECHE MODE released their new LP – their 15th – named MEMENTO MORI today. The first one without original member Andy Fletcher who passed away last May – only 60 – following an aortic dissection.

Dave Gahan: “We started work on this project early in the pandemic, and its themes were directly inspired by that time. After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue as we’re sure this
is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning. Fletch would have loved this album. We’re really looking forward to sharing it with you soon, and we can’t wait to present it to you live at the shows next year.”

NME‘s verdict: “To have an album of this quality after what the band have been through
may seem miraculous, but Depeche Mode have always turned turmoil, tension and life’s
darker moments into magic. ‘Memento Mori’ is comfortably their best album this side of
the millennium, and, most importantly, a testament to creativity and friendship. The music world is richer for it.” Full review here. Score: 4/5.

Turn Up The Volume: It feels like DM, understandably so, process their grief on this new LP after their longtime friend/colleague Andy Flecther passed away last year. Memento Mori is a mellow and emotive work, very different from their vintage Goth bombast. It’s a stylish and gracious record. Synth-pop created with a melancholic heart.

DEPECHE MODE On The Telly With New Single ‘GHOSTS AGAIN’ And Their Golden Oldie’PERSONAL JESUS’

Dark-synth-pop-wave giants DEPECHE MODE are back in the spotlight
after the passing of their co-band-founder and keyboardist Andy Fletcher
who passed away last year in May following an aortic dissection, only 60.

Next month – 24 March – the duo share their new, 15th longplayer
named MEMENTO MORI and will embark on a massive world tour.

So it’s promotion time now. Last Thursday DM were on The Late Show
with Stephen Colbert for a special edition in the Ed Sullivan Theatre on
Broadway. They performed new single Ghosts Again and imperishable
1990 golden oldie Personal Jesus.

David Gahan‘s performance was highly passionate and
intense and caused a standing ovation by the audience.

Waking Up With… New Feel Good DEPECHE MODE Single ‘GHOSTS AGAIN’

Darkwave pop Goths DEPECHE MODE will share their new LP – their 15th – named MEMENTO MORI, with the world on 24 March. The first one without original member Andy Fletcher who passed away last May – only 60 – following an aortic dissection.

Finally, the first single, named GHOST AGAIN is out.

Gahan: “To me it just captures this perfect balance of melancholy and joy.”

Gore: “It’s not often that we record a song that I just don’t get sick of
listening to. I’m excited to be able to share it.”

Ghosts Again is a surprisingly simple feel-good tune. Sparkling synths,
starry-eyed Gahan vocals, and tremendously infectious. Sunshine after
rain. A sweet rainbow song.

The accompanying video is directed by celebrated
Dutch rock photographer/filmmaker Anton Corbijn.
