Happy 80 To Beach Boy Genius BRIAN WILSON

20 June 2022

Two days after Paul McCartney another music genius who doesn’t need
an introduction celebrates his 80th birthday. BRIAN DOUGH WILSON was
born 80 years ago in Inglewood, California.

The man with the golden ears for layers of harmonies and architect of symphonic pop orchestrations, co-founded The Beach Boys with 2 of his brothers (Carl and Dennis) and his nephew Mike Love in 1961. They were the pioneers of the surf sound. They fabricated 29 studio LPs between 1962 and 20212 (That’s Why God Made The Radio) and tons of Number One hits. Wilson’s best known compositions were/are covered by countless artists.

Between 1973 and 1982 Wilson had some severe mental problems.
He stayed in bed for most of the time and consumed drugs and alcohol
on a daily basis. He went from rehab to rehab. It took him years to recover.

I was taking some drugs and I experimented myself right out of action. … I’d sometimes go and record. But basically I just stayed in my bedroom. I was under the sheets and I watched television.

Fortunately he survived those dark years and afterward he joined the band
now and then at concerts before starting a solo career in 1988 and making
8 albums (so far). He still tours this very day.

Waking Up With… HELTER SKELTER

Works fsster then caffeine

18 June 2022

JAMES PAUL McCARTNEY was born on 18 June 1942. Happy 80 to the songsmith genius who needs no introduction whatsoever. I wonder how many people never heard of Macca. The ones who lived/live on Mars?

In those 80 years the Liverpool icon has made 12 LPs with The Beatles, 7 albums
with Wings, 18 solo and several collaborative records. Lots of Hard Day Night work.

For this occasion, my wake-up song is this smoking live
version of his heaviest rock song ever HELTER SKELTER.

And  not done yet…

Happy 75 To Superwoman LAURIE ANDERSON

5 June 2022

Experimental musician LAURIE ANDERSON was born on 5 June 1947 in Illinois.

Happy 75 to the avant-garde artist who released 7 studio albums between
1984 and 2010, with Homeland as her most recent one. She collaborated
with countless artists too.

Laurie and late legend Lou Reed were partners for 21 years, they
married in 2008, five years before her husband passed away, in 2013.

Her best-known album Big Science was released 40 years ago (April 1982).

Waking With Up… With The 75 Birthday Of RON WOOD

Works faster than caffeine

1 June 2022

Ronald David Wood, better known in the rock and roll world as RONNIE WOOD,
was born in Hillingdon, London on 1 June 1947. Happy 75 to one of the most
respected and prolific guitar players in music history.

He started his career in 1964 with English R & B band The Birds (1964-1966),
then switched to The Jeff Beck Group for 2 years, and 2 albums (as bass player).

Thereafter he joined the Faces after Steve Marriott left (then named ‘Small Faces‘),
made 4 LPs with the Rod Stewart fronted lads, before joining The Rolling Stones
in 1975.

He’s now gearing up with Jagger and Keef to go on tour to celebrate their
60th birthday. In between making 11 albums with The Stones, he found
time for 7 solo longlayers.

To celebrate Wood’s 75th birthday I woke up with a classic cracker
called Stay With Me, co-written with Rod The Mod for the Faces in 1971.

Stay with me, stay with me
For tonight you’d better stay with me, oh yeah
Stay with me, stay with me
For tonight you’d better stay with me

Happy 55 To The Chief NOEL GALLAGHER

29 May 2022

(Photo by Turn Up The Volume)

Noel Thomas David Gallagher was born in Manchester on 29 May 1967.

Happy 55 to the superlative songwriter who wrote a series of unforgettable
world hits with Oasis (1991–2009), one of my all-time favorite bands (on record
and on stage). He went solo – with his High Flying Birds – 13 years ago, after the
umpteenth fight with his brother Liam.

Happy 65 SIOUXSIE SIOUX

27 May 2022

Susan Janet Ballion, best known of course as SIOUXSIE SIOUX
the voice and face of her band The Banshees was born on
27 May 1957 in London.

Happy 65 to the Goth queen of punk. One of the most
charismatic and drop-dead gorgeous rock stars ever.

With The Banshees she recorded/released 11 studio albums.
With her husband Budgie, she made two LPs under the moniker
of The Creatures. And in 2007 she released her only criminally
underrated, solo longplayer Mantaray.

It’s Not Dark Yet – Happy 81 To Living Songwriter Icon BOB DYLAN

24 May 2022

Robert Zimmernan was born on 24 May 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota.
Happy 81 to my all-time favorite singer-songwriter.

To mark the day here’s one of the most
affecting songs about getting older,
written by the man himself.

NOT DARK YET
.
Shadows are falling and I’ve been here all day
It’s too hot to sleep, time is running away
Feel like my soul has turned into steel
I’ve still got the scars that the sun didn’t heal
There’s not even room enough to be anywhere
It’s not dark yet, but it’s getting there

Well, my sense of humanity has gone down the drain
Behind every beautiful thing there’s been some kind of pain
She wrote me a letter and she wrote it so kind
She put down in writing what was in her mind
I just don’t see why I should even care
It’s not dark yet, but it’s getting there

Well, I’ve been to London and I’ve been to gay Paree
I’ve followed the river and I got to the sea
I’ve been down on the bottom of a world full of lies
I ain’t looking for nothing in anyone’s eyes
Sometimes my burden seems more than I can bear
It’s not dark yet, but it’s getting there

I was born here and I’ll die here against my will
I know it looks like I’m moving, but I’m standing still
Every nerve in my body is so vacant and numb
I can’t even remember what it was I came here to get away from
Don’t even hear a murmur of a prayer
It’s not dark yet, but it’s getting there
