Who: The latest project from Andrew Sellers who, originally from Louisville (KY),
has paid his dues in both the NYC and LA DIY music scenes, and his various bands
have played with seminal acts like Joan of Arc, Grizzly Bear & At The Drive-In.

Track: WITHOUT A DOUBT 
Cut from their upcoming LP, titled ‘Debt Forever‘,

Sellers about the track: “It’s by far the most pensive, melancholic song on the record, and it seems fitting that it’s coming out right now, amidst all the turbulence in the world. The main theme of this new record is financial uncertainty (or just uncertainty in general), so the main thing I remember about this song is the refrain “Please don’t let me run out of money” coming out randomly during practice one day.”

Interpol guitar echoes are the backbone of

Who: Very productive San Diego-born songwriter and multi-instrumentalist
who released no less than 5 albums in just 4 years and a new one is waiting
in the pipeline.

Track: EMILY
Piece from his new, forthcoming LP
named Cat’s Game out on April 11.

The lyrics speak to a lost love, as he sings, “I long to be where the colors tease, and her love concedes” with wounded swagger benefitting the paradoxical paradise of psychic devotion. There’s a unique form of bittersweet American poetry in Schroeder’s ability to make you feel the weight of longing with every lancing line.

A guitar-infused earworm from start to finish.
Catchy as hell. This classy cracker will stay with
you for a long time.

Their first single in 3 years.

A fucktastic flare-up, with

Artist: MR BILLY FRITZGERALD
Who: Dublin-based solo artist writing lush indie-pop songs
that simultaneously bathe in the faded light of heartbreak
while pulling you on to the dancefloor.

Track: LET US BE (SINGLE)
Song from his upcoming debut album,
titled ‘A Grand Romantic Gesture’, out on
Feb 20th.

Lyrically the track explores the theme of being with someone when everyone else thinks it’s a bad idea. Billy draws on his own experience, while growing up and learning how to be in a relationship and developing those tools, inevitably and regrettably, people get hurt along the way. Here he delves into this, as he declares love and devotion while facing down the barrage of words against the union. A true Romeo and Juliet story.

Who: Up-and-coming indies
from Falmouth, UK.

Track: DREAM PIXEL

“’Dream Pixel’ is about what we all see in our dreams; the colours, sounds
and occurrences that are often too surreal to put into words and leave you
questioning how the subconscious can paint such a vivid, psychedelic picture.”

Combining 70s inflected, layered vocals with psych-tinged, Gordian instrumentation that darts and weaves around broken beat rhythms, the track throbs with moments of intense saxophone, distorted guitars, mangled electronics, trembling synths, and reversed vocals. It’s another valiant testament to the band’s conscious effort to continually challenge their songwriting, told via Dan Carey’s explorative creative filter.

Definitely one of this year’s weirdest song titles.

TUTV: I have no clue what this vociferous punk headbutt has to do with
the late legendary jazz saxophonist John Coltrane, but this deafening
wall-of-hells-bells havoc we experience here isn’t exactly a bebop tune.

Imagine two trains coming from opposite directions at an insane
speed crashing into each other. That’s what happens here. Beware.

where people of color are not safe, or have the same opportunities as whites; where children are being gunned down daily; where books and education are devalued; and where women don’t have control over their own bodies. No candidate is perfect. We must vote while we still can, especially in this election, to ensure that future generations continue to have the sacred power of their freedom, their choices, and their voices.

TUTV: This song was written about 20 years ago by a Boston musician when George W. Bush was running for re-election against Massachusetts’ own John Kerry and it’s highly relevant again.

GWAH, rockers at heart, turned the encouraging tune, into a jaunty country folk pop
gem you can hum, sing and whistle along all day long. Here in Europe, we are also waiting with anticipation for the election results. Whoever wins the White House, it’ll have an impact on the rest of the world. Here in Europe want democracy to prevail, it takes care of humanity in all aspects. HEARTWORMS is the psych-pop band of fast up-and-coming British songstress Jojo Orme.
They drew a lot of aural attention with last year’s 4-track EP A Comforting Notion.

The band have now announced details of their debut LP. It’s baptized
GLUTTON FOR PUNISHMENT and will land on 25th February 2025.

Along with the news our hungry ears will get high on the new single WARPLANE.

Orme: “The opening lyrics set the scene of a dogfight in the air while civilians are witnessing it take shape. My imagination is always out of my control, and my love of Spitfires even more so, so I couldn’t help but make this about a spitfire pilot. I am dedicating this to William Gibson Gordon – a Spitfire pilot who was killed in action by an Me109 at just 20 years old. The song ends how I imagine his falling Spitfire sounds to me, like an angel losing its extraordinary wings.”

First single Hide & Seek is an explosive, nervous, race & rushing
missile and sounds like they recorded it 26 years ago.

2. ‘O%’ by HELLO MARY (Brooklyn, NY)

Hello Mary are a fierce Brooklyn post-punk trio.

0% is a vicious cryout with schizoid guitars producing a chainsaw cacophony,
bone-chilling howling and primal screams sending shivers down your spine, and
vehement drum/bass ebullition doing your head in. 100% helter-skelter turbulence.

3. ‘Doug Yuletide’ by DALE CROVER (US)

Drummer Dale Crover of chaotic veteran rockers Melvins
comes out of the shadow of the band again, for his 3rd solo LP.
It’s titled Glossolalia and shows up on September 13.

The lead single is a killer track. It moves and grooves with power-driven
energy and voltaic dash. Crover says it’s “vampire-story ‘Venus In Furs.’”.
Come again.

The Lookout are a melodic punk rock band from
Montreal, fronted by dynamite voice Martha Rockhard.

On I Know The Future all burners and all cylinders are ignited.
The band go fast-forward with unbridled panache and vivacious
vigor.

They fuzz and buzz with revved-up energy, fueled by what sounds like an army of hungry guitars, by a merciless and relentless bass/drum collaboration pushing this barnstormer’s bustling beat to a dizzying level, and avid Amazon Martha Rockhard augments the red-hot-blooded intensity with her commanding powerhouse vocals.

Late musical 73-year-old blues bloomer just launched his 14th longplayer,

7. ‘Moodswings’ by IDLES (Bristol, UK)


Promo

This is their cover of Mood SWINGS, a cool hip-rap-hop hit
by British artist Little Simz from her new album Drop 7.

Idles threw some samples of Peaches and Chemical Brothers in
their hepped-up version and come up with a dance booster.

8. ‘Houdini’ by EMINEM (US)

Eminem canned his 10th LP and named it The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). Release date TBA. I really feel for Shady, how many times has that poor guy died?

Lead single Houdini echoes his 2002 cracker Without Me and thrives on a
sample of the utterly catchy chorus of Steve Miller‘s 1982 hit Abracadabra.

Now you see him, now you don’t.
Now you hear him, now you don’t.

9. ‘Feed The Beast’ by THE CHRONICLES OF MANIMAL AND SAMARA (London-based)

London-based poetallica duo of Daphne Ang (Singapore) and Andrea Papi (Italy) return,
after 2 notable albums with this new head-twister. A piece about addiction and recovery.

Feed The Beast dives into the tumultuous inner journey of learning how to live all over again. The emotional and barbed quest starts cinematically with Ang‘s near-whispering voice echoing intriguingly, at the 1-minute mark Papi joins in vocally and metallically causing mental turmoil.

From there on, the mercurial and emotional trip gets fragmented, swinging forth
and back, and drawing all of your auditory attention until the volcanic finale hits
you in the face.

Epic odysssey.

10. ‘Waiting’ by VERRA CRUZ (UK)

This British trio infuse their guitar-driven sound with emotion, bravado and purely
authentic melancholy. as they prove here, again, with striking stroke Waiting.

With Waiting they hit bullseye with invigorating dash, resonating
somehow like Dinosaur Jr and/or The Lemonheads on a roasting roll .

11. ‘Worthless’ by GUSH (Belfast, Ireland)

These fresh Belfast grunge rockers just launched
their new 5-track boiling EP Exposure Therapy

My greedy ears picked Worthless for this monthly list.

13. ‘Boom!’ by KAT KOAN (Germany)

KK: “This is essentially a happy breakup song. It’s about that moment when you realize
you can actually get up and stand tall, after the tough period of stumbling through the pain that breaking up from a person you care about brings with it – regardless of whether that is a romantic partner, a friend or a project collaborator. Once you come out of it at the other end of the tunnel you know that the transformative process was a character building experience, and that most things happen for a reason.”

Well, why not have a happy break-up song for a change. And Boom! is more than just a happy tune. It’s Koan‘s most inventive piece (so far). A brassy mid-tempo uplifter inviting you to do some of your best dance moves. I hear sultry horns, Eastern and samba vibes, ska trumpets, and lots of fun on this fiesta-like chant.

14. ‘Starburster’ by FONTAINES D.C. (Dublin, Ireland)

Irish indie stars FONTAINES D.C. already have 3 top-drawer albums
on their résumé. And #4 is bagged now. They named it Romance
and will share it with the world on August 23rd.

On Starburster frontman Grian Chatten
goes on a parlando roll again.

Magnetizing and hypnotizing.

15. ‘Hero In The Season Of The Gun’ by LIFE COACH (Glasgow, Scotland)

Hero In The Season Of The Gun is an aflame synth-layered flare-up that triggers jump-from- left-to-right moves on the spot. It’s a hopped-up and vivified disco-punk knockout.

Life Coach balances here between the perky moments of fellow countrymen Arab Strap and The Streets with Mike Skinner charged by Duracell batteries. And his rapid-fire verbal ranting adds some more oil to the sonic British Army fire.

You can whistle along, hum along, and sing along to this chirpy and feel-good
earworm, reminding me of harmonious Scottish nightingales Teenage Fanclub.

18. ‘They’ by ADIOS MF (Northern England)

Adios MF is a musical project spearheaded by Nathan Keeble carving
fresh dark waves and electronica sounds from the underground of
Sheffield, UK.

AMF about the new track: “They” is a Kitsch by product of existence amid the constant
churn of urban development and the persistent buzz of drilling. It was written as a tonic
to the realisation that resistance is futile; you must simply acquiesce to the world of
urbanism and let it carry you along on its unpredictable journey, set to a naughty
80s beat.”

Expect a swirling, darkwavish electro reviver that bounces somewhere between
the dark side of Depeche Mode and Cold Cave‘s addictive sonority. Infectious beats
and shadow-dancing rhythms.

19. ‘Coolcats’ by GREEN CROW COLLECTIVE (Belgium)

Green Crow Collective is a new unit from Belgium led
by seasoned singer-songwriter Roeland Vandemoortele.

Coolcats is one piece from their fresh double A-side debut single that
will show up on their debut album Hard Drive Error later in the year.

No brakes, no breaks, no mistakes. Always full steam ahead driven by schizo guitars, steadfast drumming, and cool rock cats meowing all together. A mean machine debut.

20. ‘Frogs’ by NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS

Star crooner Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds launch
their 18th full-length, called Wild God on August 30.

Frogs is a vintage Cave ballad.

1. ‘May I Comply’ by HEARTWORMS (London)

Up and fast-coming artist Jojo Orme and her musical vehicle Heartworms is shooting to the top as a comet. It started with her ace EP A Comfort Notion and she follows it now with this new titillating single. A funky guitar pop pearl with a repetitive riff that creeps under your skin in an eye blink and sensual vocals that stick on the spot. Awesome.

2. ‘Meditation’ by INFADER (Belgium)

Infader is the band of Belgian singer-songwriter Michaël Denis who produce heavy rock with a dramatic flair. In a culture of musical over-simplification they add nuance to rock as we know it. Emotionally layered and transforming music, without the essence of the catchy song to lose sight of.

On Meditation, they storm fast-forward from the get-go with fierce guitars, pounding drumming and feverish vocals. A rapid-fire ripper that turns you dizzy. Sassy stroke!

Wow! What a smoking debut this is. Lords is a powerhouse hammer blow for fanatic headbangers with a guitar riff that drives you crazy and vocals that make your ears
vibrate.

4. ‘The Sadness In You, The Sadness In Me’ by SUEDE (London)

Last year the glam champs released their
9th, highly praised, album Autofiction.

An expanded edition shows up on December 8, it includes a

5. ‘I Want To Start A Religion’ by MATT TIEGLER (Chicago)

Chicago songwriter, actor and playwright Matt Tiegler returned to the studio after a long hiatus, for his third full-length, named Free Hands Down Hill, including this sickly sticky tune that may start a new religion. Pithy electricity. Hallelujah.

6. ‘Say It Like You Mean It’ by SLEATER-KINNEY (Washington)

Washington‘s longtime rollin’ pop-punk indies, a duo now with Carrie
Brownstein and Corin Tucker, have their new, 10th LP, baptized Little
Rope out on 19 January 2024.

Ahead of it we can enjoy this new sizzling single.

7. ‘Hiding’ by HAZE (Ghent, Belgium)

After playing with some bands, Belgian musician Mirabelle van de Put decided
in 2021 to go solo under the moniker of HAZE. Her excellent self-titled debut LP appeared the same year.

She’ll have her sophomore one, titled Out of Sight, out in January.

Hiding is the first single. A glinstering dream pop musing featuring sparkling guitar and smooth bass play, and van de Put‘s enticing voice takes you on a relaxing trip that flares up now and then.

The eye-catching video is created by Naomi Kerkhove.

8. ‘The Horrible Things’ by SARASARA (France)

Sarasara is a French avant-garde performance artist and
songwriter who launches her third album Elixir on March 1st.

The album’s potent mix of cultural ideas fuses with dark industrial synths and gothic atmospherics to shape her intoxicating, cinematic sophisti-pop. Enthralling, groove-laden compositions recall the likes of David Bowie and Jehnny Beth, but Sarasara found more influence in political writers; Bell Hooks, the distinguished professor of race and class, Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, a French socialist, and the first person to declare himself an anarchist, and Édith Thomas, the French novelist and bisexual pioneer of women’s
history, among others.”

First single The Horrible Things is an enigmatic slo-mo reverie with an addictive
beat and Sarasara‘s near-whispering voice creating a ghostly atmosphere.

9. ‘The Turtle’ by DOCTOR, DOCTOR (Oakland, CA)

This Oakland trio has a new 4-track EP, named Second Opinion out.

Closer ‘The Turtle’ kept playing in my head after a couple of spins. First thing that came to mind was the acoustic guitar play of Jimmy Page on Led Zep‘s classic Stairway To Heaven because of its bewitching resonance. And I’ll throw in another big name. Think Jethro Tull
on a mellow moment. Well, judge for yourself.

10. ‘My Story’ by HANI ABADI (San Francisco)

This multi-instrumentalist and composer from San Francisco
releases his debut album ‘Tiamat‘ on November 30th.

My Story, the second shared track, is a moody and emotional ballad that makes you silent and triggers melancholic thoughts. It attempts to convey the complexity of a relationship and its profound effect on someone’s life. The song is meant to console and offer hope during the darkest days.

The accompanying video captures these raw emotions, featuring claymation characters. This nostalgic style is reminiscent of music videos from the late 90s and early 2000s.
