horizon daily, for 10 years now, to pick ace tracks and add 5 new ones
twice per week, to the one and only JUKEBOX playlist that matters.

ALL TOGETHER

The 5 fresh ones
TRACK BY TRACK

Band: SHAME
Who: The searing Britpunk squad
fronted by blabbermouth Charlie Steen.

Track: QUIET LIFE
Second taster of their 4th longplayer,
titled CUTTHROAT and out on Sept 5th.

Steen: “‘Quiet Life’ is about someone in a shitty relationship. It’s about
the judgment they receive and the struggle that they have to go through,
trying to understand the conflict they face, of wanting a better life… but
being stuck.”

A sickly sticky earworm you would expect to come
from The Lathums rather than shame. Love it.

Band: BIG SPECIAL
Who: Two funky storytellers – Joe Hicklin
and Callum Moloney – from the UK.

Track: GOD SAVE THE PONY
New single from their 2nd album, named
National Average that came out of nowhere,
last Friday.

BS groove and move in a desolate disco where the fast
up-and-coming duo Getdown Services and veteran rap-poets
Sleaford Mords
rehearse too.

Band: HOME COUNTIES
Who: Vivacious indie act
from Buckinghamshire, UK.

Track: HUMDRUM
Title track of their forthcoming LP,
that will land on October 24th.

“It recalls cringing as your replay conversations in your head after
they’ve happened and the frustration of coming up with better things
to say in retrospect. It’s also about being jealous of people who talk
shit, say nothing, and still seem to come out on top.”

Post-talk frustration
wrapped in melodic
pop catchiness.

Band: THE ROYSTON CLUB
Who: Intense indie pop-rockers
from Wrexham, Wales.

HOME COUNTIES – London’s Alt Dance Pop Collective Take You On A Gloomy Trip To ‘SPAIN’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

13 May 2025

Band: HOME COUNTIES
Who: Synth-guitar pop collective from London who released their
lauded debut album, titled Exactly As It Seems. Stream it below.

New single: SPAIN
First taster of their upcoming 2nd full length. Details TBA.

Will Harrison: “It’s about growing older and fearing the person you might become,
or are already becoming. It’s about figuring out if you can grow up without losing sight
of your values or if it’s just a worthless endeavour.

The song uses the idea of a British expat living in Spain as the ultimate embodiment of everything you fear of becoming, losing all self-awareness and care about society as you slip further into individualism with age (basically worrying about growing more right-wing). But at the end, it imagines waking up as someone retired in Spain, and realising it might not be so bad after all. There’s a sentiment of ‘if this is what moral decline feels like, sign me up!’”

TUTV: We need more party bands like this who make you get up and dance, even when your and their mind are plagued by pessimism about the present and future in these screwed-up times. Why not having both fun and staying aware of the BS we need to go through every single day.

Spain make my eager ears think of Arcade Fire‘s most recent disco-infused records and former New York nightclub-filling misfits The Rapture. Wake up/go to sleep, love/hate, say hello/goodbye, sing/moan, cry/smile. Accept your mixed emotions and fight for your right to feel real. Home Counties do.

DEVO Is Dead Long Live HOME COUNTIES – Here’s New Trash And Slash Single ‘DAD BOD’…

Daily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

.

2 July 2020

After their notable debut single Redevelopment British up and coming post punk
team HOME COUNTIES confirm their huge potential with new score DAD BOD.

Songwriter and vocalist Will Harrison told about the fresh cut: “Dad Bod explores modern middle-class masculinity, with a particular focus upon the ‘progressive’ metropolitan man. The song initially takes a light-hearted standpoint listing the aesthetic traits and status symbols of modern men before moving on to address a darker side which is hidden behind the comfortability and respectfulness of a ‘Dad Bod’.”

Devo is dead, long live Home Counties, although for a few seconds you’ll hear the Gang Of Four‘s Damaged Goods intro riff. From there on its manic funk electricity bringing those innovative 70s ‘Are We Not Men?’ wackos to mind. Mind you, it’s not a copy/paste thing. These Bristol gunslingers’ buzz saw guitars cut and carve to the bone. Splintered rhythms and kooky vocals will have a strange effect on your body’s movements. Two minutes of
chopped turbulence. Two minutes of I want more of this slash and trash buzz. Definitely!

Bring it on…

Home Counties will release their debut EP on 4th September via Alcopop! Records featuring the aforementioned debut single Redevelopment
