British superstar CHARLI XCX (born Charlotte Emma Aitchison in England
33 years ago) has released her 8th album, titled MUSIC, FASHION, FILM.
The album cover is both incredibly surprising and utterly cool. It features Welsh
rock legend John Cale (with whom she wrote the song House for her soundtrack
album for this year’s Wuthering Heights movie), American fashion designer
Marc Jacobs and iconic film director Martin Scorsese.
Cover of the year? Great contender.
Music? I’m not a Charli XCX follower, but this
new LP will sell millions. Mainstream pop bliss.
Pitchfork says: “If you were to just read the lyrics you’d say this is one of the least written albums of all time. But the record is full of little somatic thrills—doubled vocal harmonies, sharp dynamic contrasts—that come densely packed yet discrete and readily clippable.”
