‘BABY DOLL’ Connects KYLIE MINOGUE And PRINCE

16 December 2024

One upon a time in 1992 young Australian pop heroine KYLIE
MINOGUE
received a cassette from musical genius PRINCE.

It contained Prince’s version of a song called BABY DOLL,
a song Kylie had written and had sent to Prince for advice.

But nothing really happened afterward, except that the Prince Estate,
apparently, considered to include the recording on a 2022 archival
compilation, but, in the end it didn’t happen.

Now, 32 years later the song finally
found it’s way to the Internet. And it
goes like this.

STEREOGUM Magazine Readers Voted For SONG OF THE SUMMER 2023 – And The Winner Is…

15 August 2023

Officially, Summer is over on September 23, but renowned and highly praised
Internet music magazine STEREOGUM already asked their readers/followers
to name their favourite song of the Summer 2023.

And the winner is: KYLIE MINOGUE with PADAM PADAM. The infectious synth-pop earworm was released on the 18th of May (and already more than 56 million streams
on Spotify) as the first single of her upcoming – 16th – album, titled Tension, which lands
on 22 September. The tune was written by Norwegian singer-songwriter Ina Wroldsen together with its producer Lostboy.

Padam Padam is what a summer hit should sound like.

Sugary, sunny, catchy, feel good & easygoing, and totally danceable.

Congrats to Kylie.

Band: KATE KOAN & THE LOST SOULS
Who: The musical project of Kat Koan.
A versatile Berlin-based artist.

Two weeks ago Welsh record label GOD IS IN THE TV released
Come Into My World: A Collection Of KYLIE MINOGUE Covers

in aid of MacMillian Cancer Support.

The 33-track album contains original Kylie covers. An eclectic range of her classics, from pure electronica, to indie, pop, psych, garage punk, folk, industrial goth, and disco by a range of independent artists from throughout the UK and Europe, there’s something for every taste on this album.

Koan picked Slow. The sensual electro-pop groove that opened her 2003 album.

The cover has a fairly different dynamic. More rock than pop with its psychedelic
guitars, its firm rhythm section and Koan‘s arousing vocals. It’s rare that a cover
is better than the original. But it happens here. Top. And the accompanying video
is top too.

Listen/watch.

Kylie’s original.

You can buy the compilation via Bandcamp and
support the MacMillian Cancer Charity Organisation.
