MY BLOODY VALENTINE And TEENAGE FANCLUB Released An Album Today 35 Years Ago
4 November 2026
Band: MY BLOODY VALENTINE
Who: The genre-breaking shoegaze explores from
Ireland, led by mastermind Kevin Shields.
Album: LOVELESS
Their 2nd (of only 3).
Released: 4 Nov 1991,
35 years ago today.
Kevin Shields experimentied with glide guitar technique, non-standard tunings,
digital sampling, and meticulous production methods. The band recorded at nineteen
different studios and hired several engineers during the album’s prolonged recording.
Since its release, Loveless has been widely cited by critics as one of the greatest albums of all time, a landmark work of the shoegaze subgenre, and a significant influence on various subsequent artists.
NME said: “Loveless fires a silver-coated bullet into the future, daring all-comers to try
and recreate its mixture of moods, feelings, emotion, styles and, yes, innovations.”
Band: TEENAGE FANCLUB
Who: Scottish nightingales with
13 albums, so far, to their credit.
Album: BANDWAGONESQUE
Their second one.
Released: 4 Nov 1991,
today 35 years ago.
The cover was designed by Sharon Fitzgerald. When Kiss member Gene Simmons,
who had trademarked the logo of a moneybag with a dollar symbol, was made
aware of the record, he sent a letter to Geffen Records, who in turn gave in and
sent Simmons a cheque.
AllMusic said: “Although its incandescent harmonies, lazily immediate
songs, and crunching guitars earned it endless comparisons to vintage
Big Star, Bandwagonesque is in every way a product of its own time.”
