10 October 2026
Band: LUNA ROSA
Who: Indie outfit from Northants,
East Midlands of England.
Track: A ROOM BETWEEN THE OCEANS
Born from one line in a short story, ‘A room in the ocean’ it stayed with frontman
Rory McDade for a year before becoming ‘A Room Between The Oceans’, emerging
as an image of two people sealed inside a room being battered by waves from
either side, while everything within remains completely still.
It is a place of safety and danger, euphoria and pain, love and trauma.
A place that can feel like everything, precisely because there is nowhere
else to go.
The song’s institutional shadows were partly informed by a book, titled One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest by American novelist Ken Kesey (1935-2001), while its cosmic imagery reflects the band’s vocalist/lyricist Rory McDade’s fascination with the idea of joy and trauma existing within the same space.
TUTV: Mind-bending mixed emotions collide on this monumental goosebumps
roller coaster. A Room Between The Oceans is an astonishing masterstroke amplified
with overwhelming orchestrations, crescendo rock grooves, Interpol-like guitar bliss
and a captivatingly melodramatic chorus with perfervid vocals bringing The Afghan
Whigs’ frontman Greg Dulli‘s feverish voice to mind.
In a normal world this staggering tour de force
would be a widespread triumph. Spread the word.
