MARK EDWARD SMITH, the controversial and genial frontman of THE FALL was born 62 years ago today on 5 March 1957 in Broughton, Lancashire but lived the greater part of his live in Prestwich, Greater Manchester. To celebrate and remember the man here’s a Best Of The Fall, compiled by Turn Up The Volume when Smith passed away on 24 January 2016.

Smith, the wayward mastermind of incomparable Manchester post-punk outlaws THE FALL died yesterday – 24 January – only 60. Smith was no less than a troubled genius. A fascinating wordsmith, a modern poet and made more records in his short lifetime than Radiohead would ever be able to complete in a full century. In memory
of this once in a lifetime artist and the countless brill line-ups of his band here are not the 15 usual picks, but 25 standout eruptions. R.I.P. Psycho Mafia Smith.
