Brand New Video For MOTÖRHEAD’s 1998 Cover Of METALLICA Classic ‘ENTER THE SANDMAN’

9 May 2023

Noise titans MOTÖRHEAD and METALLICA were friends for a very long time. The latter played on Lemmy’s 50th birthday concert in 1995 all dressed up as the great man himself, under the moniker of The Lemmys. In turn, Motörhead paid homage to some of Metallica’s best known exploits, even winning a Grammy for their version of Whiplash in 2004.

Lemmy‘s gang also covered their 1991 classic ENTER THE SANDMAN in 1998.
That version was part of a compilation that didn’t reach many fans of both bands.

The Motörhead curators decided to give the iconic cover the attention it deserves
with a brand new video for it produced by Mulberry Creative. It’s an animated one,
showing a horrifying nocturnal journey through the nightmares of a child who is
haunted by the evil sandman in his dreams, and is ultimately saved by the powers
of the inimitable Motörhead ‘Warpig’.

Metal Titans METALLICA Crash Concrete Walls With Their New Cast Iron Album ’72 SEASONS’

Standout longplayers

14 April 2023

Metal titans METALLICA released their 11th LP,
baptized 72 SEASONS today. Order info here.

Hatfield (voice/guitarist) “The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents.
A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception
of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these
childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we
carry.”

NME: “The hard rock veterans roll back the years to deliver a thrilling sonic onslaught – including their longest ever song… The whole album roars past in an unremitting and intense 77 minutes, pausing only for a few moments of in-studio banter recorded for posterity. There are no ballads here, just speed demon anthems purpose built for mosh pits, bedrooms, car journeys and anywhere else you choose to head-bang.” Score: 4/5.

TUTV: Guess what, I never was a big Metallica fan (too macho, too many times the same old tricks) but (you knew a but was coming) with this thunder-and-lighting loaded album I’m headbanging and playing air guitar like a real M fanatic. I never thought these old master-billionaire-puppets would have still that much ear-crushing energy in their tank.
It’s a cast iron album you can crash concrete walls with. 12 ballbreakers, 72 seasons. Hallelujah!

Original by Hawkind (with Lemmy)

Every Sunday for about two years now, the famous British songstress and

YouTube with covers of big crackers. Their performances were/are ridiculously
hilarious. Definitely the stand-up rock comedians of 2021.

4 Brand New ALBUMS: MANIC STREET PREACHERS – THE VACCINES – SLEIGH BELLS – METALLICA

Brand new longplayers…

The Ultra Vivid Lament by MANIC STREET PREACHERS

Band: MANIC STREET PREACHERS
Album: THE ULTRA VIVID LAMENT
The Welsh rockers’ 14th longplayer

NME says: “The band delve into loss, insecurity and existential dread, resulting in some of the prettiest songs of their career… The record has its flaws, but in the end they are minor bumps
in a record of intense beauty, among the best of the Manics’ records this century.”
Full review here. Score: 4/5.

Turn Up The Volume: Even after all these years, the Manics – one of my-all time favorite bands – do what they do terrifically best, writing adrenalin-fueled pop anthems that make your ears tremble the moment they stream out of your stereo speakers. I know, their slash-‘n’-burn punk edge of the early days is gone, and they pop more than they rock now, with sticking symphonic sparks, and they still tackle social issues/injustices – past and present – with a pointed knife. A band designed for life.

Band: SLEIGH BELLS
Album: TEXIS
The New York duo’s fifth full length

The Line Of Best Fit says: “TEXIS delivers everything that one could hope to find on a Sleigh Bells record: dance worthy beats, angelic vocals, and satisfying boisterousness. While TEXIS could have afforded more variability, it remains a testament to the act’s ability to express a range of emotions without killing the tempo.” Score: 4/5.

Turn Up The Volume: Sleigh Bells combine half tunes, with half grooves, half beats and half booms, then throw the whole shebang in a bubbling electro bath. Don’t expect a Saturday Night Fever Party, but a rather Saturday Of Messed-Up Minds Madness. Actually, my messed-up cup of tea.

Band: METALLICA
Album: METALLICA BLACKLIST
What: A massive covers compilation called The Metallica Blacklist featuring
no less than 53 artists interpreting a Black Album song, the breakthrough LP
that celebrated its 30th last month.

Pitchfork writes: “There’s some great music on The Metallica Blacklist, but how great can
an album truly be if you can’t stomach listening to it in one sitting? The Black Album launched Metallica to superstardom because of its approachability, but in its attempts to offer something for everyone, Blacklist spreads itself too thin.”
Full review here. Score: 6/10.

Turn Up The Volume: 66 tracks, 5 hours and 56 minutes! No, thank you. Really too much for my ears. And, to be honest, I was never a devoted Metallica fan, but millions are, so there you go.

Band: THE VACCINES
Album: BACK IN LOVE CITY
Fifth LP by the London indie rockers

DIY magazine‘s verdict: “The Vaccines allow their unashamed love for pop to soar
on ‘Back In Love City’. Against Justin’s increasingly interesting way with words, it feels
like the purest Vaccines album yet.”
Full review here. Score: 4/5.

Turn Up The Volume: The one and only Vaccines album I frequently return to is their debut What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?. Its razor-sharp, no fillers all killers brilliance melted away along their long and winding road. Mind you, this new one has some big moments… but just not enough. Also, too much over-orchestrated bombast. Their first vaccine is still their most effective working in my book.
