Britpop rocker MILES KANE released his 6th full-length Sunlight In The Shadows,
last October. Another feel-good record jammed with a series of rapturous rippers
and a couple of romantic ballads. No-nonsense, top-quality entertainment.
Last Tuesday, he landed, as part of a UK/Europe/US tour, with his band
in Antwerp, Belgium, only 2 years after his previous passage in our country.
Kane is a riveting rocker at heart and demonstrated that once again with a non-stop
salvo of jagged jackhammers, new and old, with a slower one here and there to refill the tank. No less than 8 tracks out of the new album’s 12 were integrated into the 18-song set. And they all fitted perfectly next to the golden oldies.
The 1500-cap venue loved (me included) every single second of his whirlwind performance. Live favourites Troubled Son, One-Man Band Rearrange, Inhaler,
Coup De Grace, Don’t Forget Who You Are, and ebullient climax Come Closer
went down a storm and were the expected standouts.
The euphoric spectators were clearly longtime fans. They sang, clapped, and cheered without interruption, propelled by the man’s highly charismatic magnetism and his overwhelming guitar riffage.
No much talk in between songs, except for the moment after finishing an enwrapping rendition of power ballad My Love, when his manager came on stage with a birthday cake for Miles, who turned 40. The whole venue chanted “Happy Birthday,” of course, and he was clearly touched by the loud, clear ovation.
Only smiling faces after the show. Again, music showed its
formidable force and immense impact on people’s state of mind.

It’s anthemic and thrumming, and reads like the soundtrack to a summer spent
on Route 66.”
TUTV: Kane should join The Black Keys (it sounds like he already did). His new record, mostly written with Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney uses those two keys’ formula applied on their last two LPs. Light blues rock tunes, smoothly crafted and mainstreamed for success.
NME says: “There’s unquestionably a space for The Belair Lip Bombs
to thrive globally. ‘Again’, to paraphrase U2, feels like them auditioning
to be the biggest band in the world.”
TUTV: Just like that these pop indies from down under score one of the best guitar pop albums of 2025. Expect a swirling series of emotive earworms. Top-drawer stuff. Trust me, these bombs will go nuclear soon.
Kerrang says: “Carry on screaming! Creeper return with their fangs on full display for
bigger, brassier, bloodier Sanguivore sequel. Creeper have always been great. In this current (and unexpectedly elongated) vampire phase, they’ve blossomed into their true, proper selves. Go on, Creeper, make this sequel part two of a trilogy.”
TUTV: Goth rock bombast with a huge entertaining impact. Titanic tunes blast
out of your speakers for 42 minutes. Not creepy, rather speedy and sweepy.
Band: EX HYENA (Boston, MA) Who: The musical project of Bo Barringer and Reuben Bettsak.
They got together in 2020, surfacing through the haze of the
global pandemic and have released 3 albums since.
Press info: “To understand this rich and complex collection of 11 tracks, one must crawl into its title. The XX in XX YOUR LOVE is a placeholder for the listeners’ understanding of

TUTV: Ex-Hyena fans know what to expect from this electro-crazy Boston duo.
Old skool techno pyrotechnics, 24-hour party extravaganza, and synth-laced jams.
Artist: ANNA VON HAUSSWOLFF Who: Swedish singer, songwriter, musician, composer, and
pipe organist. She is known for her gothic-styled music, usually
accompanied by the pipe organ.
The Guardian (British newspaper): “It’s music that feels as if it’s in constant motion, amplified by the fact that the melodies, rich and beautiful as they are, seldom adhere to any standard verse-chorus structure: the songs here usually end up somewhere very different from the place they started. Indeed, its maximalism might be too overwhelming to take in one long sitting.”
TUTV: This synth-symphonic, heavy percussion and vocal tour de force opus causes
a transcendental experience that lingers for a long time. Think Kate Bush teaming up
with Florence + The Machine.
Band: KASABIAN Who: British star rockers from Leicester. One of the best bands
of the past 25 years on record and on stage, in my book.

TUTV: These young Irishmen punch left and right with puisssant post-punk panacherie.
Hit here, hit there, hit everywhere. Best thing about Erasure is, you can bounce like a ping pong ball to it. If its bang-up drive doesn’t make you go bonkers, I recommend to check your shrink. Pronto.
Band: SPRINTS Who: Irish post-punk whirlwind, led by charismatic
voice/songwriter/guitarist Karla Chubb.

on their brand new, second LP, called All That Is Over.
TUTV: Every time I play this pure punk-rock gem, I feel way better. Fact. No, it doesn’t
have that by now known Sprints quiet/Loud/quiet progression. It’s Better‘s striking swagger, superb groove, excited duet vocals, and infectious guitar play that make this one of the best cracking tunes they ever wrote. Hallelujah!
TUTV: This ferocious wham bam uppercut doubles your adrenaline production instantly. Loud, nasty, brutal and red-hot are the keywords. Roasting post-punk at its fieriest best. Titanic stroke. Hells bells!

Artist: ASSASUN Who: Berlin-based dark-techno-wave artist Alexander Donat (Vlimmer, Fir Cone Children, WHOLE)
“Sound-wise, you could imagine Assasun operates somewhere between irate Clipping, a parallel timeline of early Nine Inch Nails, and Sleaford Mods on a havocked, misanthropic hotel lobby techno party. In short: dense, raw, uncompromising.”
TUTV: I don’t how many hours Berlin has in a day, but I think it’s definitely more than in other countries as Alexander Donat‘s musical production with his 3 different projects is off the charts. Anyway, this dark-techno-wave stomper from his new LP is one to play out loud, while going berserk on a trampoline.
Band: LADYTRON Who: British electro pop act, still with three of their original members, since 1999. Restarting now and then, they recorded/released 7 LPs so far withTime’s Arrow
from 2023 as the most recent one.
TUTV: It’s a new single shared without any further info,
but sources whisper that a new album is coming in the
near future.
Anyway, I Believe In You is an undisputable dancefloor thrill. Pounding percussion, bouncy and breezy synths, airy vocals, and a galvanic beat combine for a light-hearted pop gem.

Band: LOVINA FALLS Who: The dark dream-pop project of Boston-based singer-songwriter,
multi-instrumentalist, and producer Valerie Forgione. In 2023, they released
their debut album, Calculating The Angle Of Our Descent.
TUTV: The band swing your ears between a bewitching torch reverie
and a power pop melody. The process repeats itself a couple of times,
around Forgione‘s seductive voice. Riveting. Am I the only one who thinks
that Chris Isaak is on guitar here and there on the slow part? Well, that’s
what my ears tell me.
Who: Dublin-based singer-songwriter writing lush indie-pop songs that
simultaneously bathe in the faded light of heartbreak while pulling you
on to the dancefloor.
“Billy tackles enduring a vicious break up, wading through the emotional
carnage that accompanies it and coming out the other side.”
TUTV: With his chirpy high-pitched voice, his jazzy swagger, and his songwriting
prowess, Fritzgerald takes you back to the 60s/70s for some Motown soul excitement. Sexual healing ambiance.

half Brighton and half Los Angeles.

pIm: “It’s a raucous anti-genocide anthem recorded and mixed by us and features our trademark duo vocals, oscillating between unsettling quiet and raucous chaos set to a Severance-costumed video, but filmed in a swimming pool, naturally.”
TUTV: This new drone sounds like a vintage, raw bass/drum pounding
uppercut from the late Steve Albini’s band Shellac. No arty-farty production,
nor special effects for these two punkettes. What you hear is what you get.
Have A Latte has a poignant, garage punk edge as if it were recorded in, eh,
a garage without tuning up the instruments. In the end, it’s the real, honest
sonic deal that matters.
Band: DOPAMINE FIX Who: Fresh Irish indie duo who’s manifesto says a lot about them: “With a nod to the Dadaists, we create Post Punk, Experimental and
Electronica which aims to unnerve, to disturb and to question.”
“The song erves as a record of how dysfunctional and broken our world is. This single is a soundtrack for the alienated and the awake, those treading water in a dystopia they never asked to enter.”
TUTV: Ominous tension hangs all over this feverish and foreboding psych jam incited
by angstful guitars. A sign of the times. Welcome To The Sharktank isn’t a song about the birds and the bees, it’s about today, about 2025 and the uncertain future. Anxious vocals amplify the inauspiciousness in the air and get out of control in the end. Scary reality as
we know it.
TUTV: The tireless Moore treats us with a cover of a song by The Velvet Underground. Not a really famous one. It dates
back to 1968, but did come out much later, on a VU
compilation from 1985.
It’s a fooling around, riff-rotating VU ripper
spiced with Lou Reed‘s characteristic vocality.
Artists: BRIAN ENO and BEATIE WOLFE. Who: The ambient sound wizard and the Anglo-American songstress.
They met for the first time in 2022 at the SXSW festival. The beginning of
a fertile musical collaboration.
Last June, they have released 2 dream-pop-wave LPs,
at the same time, titled Luminal and Lateral.
And a third one, named Liminal is waiting in
the pipeline to be released on October 10th.

Miles Kane recorded his upcoming, new album, called Sunlight In The Shadows in Nashville with The Black Keys‘ frontman Dan Auerbach. It comes out on October 17.
38-year-old Britpop rocker MILES KANE delivered his best ever solo album,
to my ears, with last year’s 5th one, named ONE MAN BAND. Following the
release he took the road to promote the record, and he’s still traveling around
Europe.
Last Wednesday he hit my hometown Ghent (Belgium) as a one man band. Yes, he and
his guitar and all other music on tape. It felt awkward at the beginning, as if he cheated on us by turning up alone, but that feeling disappeared very quickly, as Kane got the whole venue on his hands after just a couple of riff-loaded killers.
And the euphoric ambiance got hotter and more sweaty along the way. His set was
a clever, yet short one (just one hour), meaning that he played all the firecrackers we wanted to hear (except forBaggio, the album’s exhilarated single. Damn Miles, why?
You played it on all of your previous concerts).
Kane is a vintage rock ‘n’ roll star who knows all the tricks to score a 5-star gig. He took
the stage to The Who‘s My Generation (with fans from three generations in the building)
left with Rocky’s anthemic movie theme on the speakers, and he interacted with the elated audience as if we were all one big happy family with one and the same goal, having a blast of a night out, which happened flawlessly (except for missing Baggio of course. Oops, I said it again).
The one man band ruled.

Riverstone is an excessive electro-industrial sledgehammer doing your head,
your ears and your mind in. Bang-bang-bang-bang. Deafening drones, psychotic
guitars, and schizophrenic vocals, it’s all here to have an electric brain-frying
chair experience.
All-round Canadian singer/songwriter nailed it with this efferscent swirling knockout.
This is the kind of 24-Carat gold banger that makes your day, that boosts your worried state of mind, that puts a big smile on your face, that works faster than any stimulant and most of all, that gets you on your feet, triggers your best rotating dance moves and make you embrace life. Reality is not all doom and gloom, as many (mostly politicians) want us to believe to push their own power-greedy agenda. To hell with them.
These vigorous Brits hit big time with this flamboyant ripsnorter.
It’s full tilt ahead from the get-go. No brakes, no breaks, and
creeping under your skin faster than you can say this is super-duper.
A whirlwind of scorching guitars, pounding drumming, a revolving bass line
somewhere in the middle, go-getting vocals and a dynamite chorus combine
for a badass belter. 2023 was the year for 32 Tens.
This contagious cracker celebrates forer Italian football star Roberto Baggio
Kane:“I was eight years old when I first saw Baggio on TV, it was during the
1994 World Cup. I was taken back by his presence, his look and his talent. It was
the first time I’d seen a man look so different and unique. Seeing Baggio led me to
e obsessed with that Italian football team for many years later.
Baggio is one of those typical Kane tunes. Immediately recognisable with its
uplifting 60s/70s beat and blissful melody. But it’s a glorious guitar fragment
and accompanying harmonious, backing vocals that lift the song to a five-star
pop level.
This new supergroup features Shaun Ryder & Bez (Happy Mondays/Black Grape),
Andy Bell (Ride/Oasis) and drummer Zak Starkey, yes Ringo’s son, who actually came up with this project’s idea and describes it as “a fantastic psychedelic groove from a band of misfits, outsiders and innovators.”
First single Gorilla Guerilla is a mind-boggling techno-rock stomper
to start and end all (il)legal raves with and fill dancefloors around the
globe with. This seasoned collective is a mean groove machine.
The duo launched their 12th LP, called UK Grim last March.
This rattling piece is my absolute favorite.
It’s Sleaford Mods by – very good – numbers. The mods still spit and sneer
against Tories‘ merciless pressure and devastating regime. And they still do
it with rappin’ vibrations.
The waterfall wordsmith from Hull (UK) released her tip-top debut EP Chaos Of Time
and followed it with this booming corker. Glittery, glammy and trashy (like the video).
Sing happy birthday to 6-year-old princess Jodie midway. Don’t worry afterward you
can continue to pogo around the table.
10. ‘Dicks In Tanks’ by MORLOCKS (Gothenborg, Sweden)

This Swedish turbo founded by mastermind J.Strauss had
a new flabbergasting album out, named Praise The Iconoclast,
this year.
Single Dicks In Tanks features vocal efforts from Sascha Konietzko of KMFDM,
dark ambient electro queen Karin My and black metal maestro Heljarmadr
of Grá/Dark Funeral.
Morlocks‘ cynical take on war is sharp-cutting like a first-class Swiss knife
“Salute every hard on, a call to arms / this is my klaxon / sound the alarms”.
It all starts with warning war sirens and marching soldiers chants.
90 seconds later, it’s all hens on deck when this industrial rock missile
erupts with a blitzkrieg fierceness.
Think Rammstein and NIN having a fight with riot guns.
11. ‘An Individual Soul’ by PRINCESS UGLY (Portland, US)
This blitz duo – J. Christopher-Rome (lyrics/vocals) and Christopher Moncrieffe (music/instruments) mix post-punk, early 80’s goth, shoegaze, and new wave
into their own brand of sound.
An Individual Soul is a multi-layered serpent of a track.
After a short shock intro, psychobilly guitars take over and riff
and roll all the way through, surrounded by glowing synths waves.
Add Christopher-Rome’s creepy whispering and you’ll feel transported
somewhere into a twilight zone where Goths party. Princess Ugly’s ominous
mind mystifies and the enigmatic she-devil in the video is a misleading
magnet.
These Dutch-American misfits have their roots firmly planted in both the regional
and international counterculture. They produce a raw, dirty groove influenced by
punk, provo and punk icons. Their poetry is packed with social criticism.
Huevos Rancheros, from their new longplayer Good Busy is a song about
seeing life clearly through all the haze and confidently strolling through the
daze.
It’s a tremendously sticky and melodic tune that mesmerises from the kick-off.
Stimulated by a sparkling and melancholic guitar riff à la Kurt Vile, a footstompin’
beat and word-smith Joshua Baumgarten‘s expressive storytelling it becomes an
electrifying humdinger, after a couple of spins.
The singular psych-folk-pop-rock wanderers released, this year,
one of their best albums ever withSea Of Mirrors
Wild Bird is The Coral at its relaxing best. A characteristic psych-pop gem
that pleased my ears on repeat since it came out. Breezy and heartwarming,
causing an I-feel-so-much-better-now thrill in the end.
Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr worked in 1979 on the demo
of this previously unreleased John Lennon beauty, but didn’t finish it at the time.
Now, using advanced technology and a curatorial touch, McCartney
and Starr have completed what they started with George, and turned
it into a fully orchestrated nugget of a love song
This young outfit from Newport, Wales drew TUTV’s
attention in an eye/earblink with Nice To Say Hello.
It’s only their 3rd single, but this young team sounds as if they’ve been
around for years. Nice To Say Hello is a top-pop thrill. Irresistibly catchy
and captivatingly melodic. Layers of glimmering guitars with an endearing
resonance, that brings, yes, Noel Gallagher’s strumming play of his solo
work to mind.
The charming vocals and the infectious chorus
make the sonic picture complete. Fabulous feat.
Chic Choc are three musically seasoned Amazons from NYC using drum machines,
synthesizers, guitars, voice and a variety of sound filters and pedals to make
their point.
Freedom is their crystal clear debut single that criticizes, 200% rightly so, the fact that women still have to fight for so many fundamental rights. It’s bloody 2023 and so much female injustice is still a reality.
Sonically it’s a striking EBM earworm to fill dance floors with. Brisk beats, cool chorus, sensuous vocals and a protesting choir, combine for a spirited piece. Bang-on.
18. ‘You’re So Cool’ by KAT KOAN (Berlin, Germany)
This Berlin-based songstress released her arresting debut full-length LUSTPRINZIP last year. This year, she recorded/shared three rad singles.
You’re So Cool (me?) is one of them. A sexy dance stomper with an instant impact on your hip movements. And, as usual, Koan‘s sultry voice tickles your imagination and makes you light some candlelights, and seduces you to do some shadow-dancing.
The Vanity Project is a London-based queer freak pop duo featuring Flora Jackson and Rob Paterson. The project is a multi-instrumented, multi-genre fever dream fusing new-wave, modern art-pop and PC Music influences with dashes of jangle pop, Latin alternative and drum and bass, dazzling hooks, and wryly humoured dystopian lyrics. All accompanied by eccentric visuals.
‘Eureka!’ was one of the standout singles on their debut album, named We Never Should Have Come Here, that landed last September.
Combine the madcap vibrancy of Sparks‘ early days and some glamourous Queen bombast and you’ll scream out loud Eureka!. These misfits produce
eccentric pop pleasure, sonically and lyrically, without mainstream
restrictions.
They sound kooky and look kooky, but make no mistake, this tantalizing
tandem know perfectly well how to fabricate and construct entertaining
music.
One of my all-time fav bands, on record and on stage, returned, finally,
this year with their acclaimed LP God Games and this arousing bluesy piece
is one of the highlights.
21. ‘Dead Moon Rising’ by CACTUS FLOWERS (Houston, Texas)
Cactus Flowers is a psych-rock outfit from Houston, Texas fronted by Jessica A.M., whose mother photographed bands for Rolling Stone during the magazine’s counter-culture heyday.
With Dead Moon Rising we get a mid-tempo garage blues-rock corker fuelled
by echoing, rollicking riffs, steady drum hits and arresting Jessica A.M. vocals.
This raw cracker resonates like glorious legends The Cramps in slo-mo with a
mean machine vibe, rock-and-psycho-billy swagger and hefty dynamics. From bad moon rising to dead moon rising.

The British guitar pop idols will make their fans happy with their new, sixth
full-length, baptized Pick-Up Full Of Pink Carnations out on 12 January 2024.
