Today 55 years ago, on 16 June 2025, British pop band MUNGO JERRY, led by their big sideburns singer-songwriter Ray Dorset, topped the UK Singles Chart with their monster
hit IN THE SUMMERTIME (more than 260 million streams on Spotify)
Dorset wrote the song on a second-hand Fender Stratocaster while
working in a lab for Timex. He said it only took him 10 minutes to
to do it. It was the group’s debut single.
It also reached the number one spot in Canada and was a Top-10 hit around the world.
