His mellow and tender timbre is everywhere. All songs are stylistically polished, silkily orchestrated, while bluesy horns add a warm feel on a regular basis. Most of them could easily be The National tunes. Leonard Cohen‘s muse is omnipresent. Impassioned intimacy in motion.

TUTV: One of his most coherent, balanced, and fully satisfying albums (so far).
All 10 songs stand tall and proud, rock with flair and groove with panache. They
have body, heart and soul.

Lots of horns and strings are involved, but never in an overdrive way, rather as an integrated part of the record’s rich orchestrations. Also Segall rarely loses himself in redundant guitar solos, which happened way too often in the past. He keeps it simple
and direct, sonically and vocally. Ty rules, folks.

After more than 30 years GARBAGE still operate with e their original line-up. Vocalist/lyricist Shirley Manson, bassist Duke Erikson, guitarist Steve Marker and
drummer Butch Vig. Quite rare.

And with the four of them they released their 8th album,
titled LET ALL THAT WE IMAGINE BE THE LIGHT today.

Press info: All the hallmarks and signatures for which they are known are present
here. Big angular guitars, precise, propulsive beats and cinematic soundscapes all
lurk beneath Shirley Manson’s expressive voice, her lyrics bristling with attitude. It is
the sound of a group at the peak of their creative powers – characteristically harnessing sonic juxtapositions and moods to create an album that thrums equally with both light
and shade.

NME says in a 5-star review: “If there is one thing Garbage have taken from the time

TUTV: My ears do not agree with the overall positive critics for this new Garbage record.
It lacks too few monumental tunes, too few chill bumps moments, too few cast iron earworms. Sonically, it’s an average affair for a band this magnitude.

TUTV: ST come up with 10 orchestral, horns-infused power pop chants. Funky, punky
and hunky-dory. Effervescent and zealous Imagine Franz Ferdinand having a date with Scottish pop legends Orange Juice. Always entertaining but a bit too much of the same.

SKUNK ANASIE Sound Refreshed On Their 7th Album ‘THE PAINFULL TRUTH’

Kerrang‘s verdict: “The Painful Truth sounds eye-openingly fresh for a band with such
history. Everything about this is new, except its heart-on-sleeve honesty. They’ve never
released an album that embraces creativity this openly. My Greatest Moment, for example,
is full of ear-catchingly extracurricular sounds – the sort of thing artists in the NIN-to-Starset bracket specialise in, but without sounding like either. Life’s truth might be painful sometimes, but it’s rarely sounded better.”

TUTV: SA return less raw, rough and heavy as usual, even poppy at times. Mind you,
there’s still enough decibels to challenge your ears, especially when Skin’s voice reaches for the sky. As always she put all of her heart and soul in her performances. But overall they sound somehow polished, in an entertaining way that is, with more emphasis on melodiousness. Top tracks: An Artist Is An Artist, Lost And Found, Cheers and Meltdown.

SLEEP TOKEN – Mega Prog Metal Rock Freaks In Repeat Modus On New Album ‘EVEN IN ARCADIA

SLEEP TOKEN, the mysterious industrial post-metal phenomenon from London who
claim to be united in their worship of an ancient deity identified by them as ‘Sleep‘,
who appeared to the band’s ominous lead singer Vessel, and wear masks are hotter
than ever.

Since their 2019 debut album, Sundowning on, they have built a massive fan base, and their brand-new fourth LP, EVEN IN ARCADIA, will even enlarge the countless number of supporters.

TUTV: I understand the huge appeal of this prog-metal rock phenomena.
Sleep Token look/sound bigger than normal life. There’s a mysterious, mythical,
medieval-goth-like, aura that surrounds them and their bombastic and theatrical
wall-of-Herculean sound is quite overwhelming.

It works for me too, but just for a couple of tunes. Problem: their songs are all
constructed the same way. The first part is melodic, meditative, spooky and the
harbinger for the second part, a tormenting death metal assault. Yes, sonically
impressive. But this process repeats itself for the full 56 minutes, which makes
me get bored halfway. The power of repetition can be imposing, but not here,
at least not for me.

PETER MURPHY Offers Melodramatic Goth Disco Anthems On New Solo LP ‘SILVER SHADE’

Bauhaus‘ dark-Goth-wave icon PETER MURPHY (now 67) made a surprising return
last November with a goosebumps power pop ballad duet with Boy George, named
Let The Flowers Grow.

Now he’s back solo, with his 10th solo LP Silver Shade. It’s produced by renowned producer Youth (Pink Floyd, The Verve, Crowded House, member of Killing Joke, The Orb,
The Firemen w/Paul McCartney).

SPIN Magazine: “Artists age differently, it comes through in their work. Some turn contemplative, some opt for acceptance, some even refuse to admit they’re getting older (looking at you, Rolling Stones). On Silver Shade, famed Bauhaus vocalist and post-punk
pioneer Peter Murphy reveals how he chooses to face his golden years: with an album of
grand, baroque defiance you can dance to.

As with time itself, the album never stops moving, relentlessly propelling listeners forward

TUTV: Murphy solo is as relevant as Bauhaus was. He’s still as rhapsodic, motivated and
ambitious as he ever was. Silver Shade is stuffed with big, bombastic and melodramatic tunes to draw goth fans to gloomy discos with. Banger after banger, stompers after stomper. Gloriously orchestrated, anthemically constructed. His phenomenal vocal performance lifts this remarkable record to an astonishing level. Class!

AGENDER – L.A.’s Flamboyant Post-Punk Daredevils Go ‘BERSERK’ On Their 3rd Album

Band: AGENDER

Who: Initially formed in 2011 as a solo punk excursion for Melbourne-born
Romy Hoffman, Agender was born when she decided to get sober. Since then,
the queer post-punk outfit has now become a full-fledged quartet. with Hoffman,
the focal point as the primary writer in the group.

It’s hard to put Agender into any box. The L.A. four-piece make schizo, synthy, paranoid, post-punk with a dash of dysmorphic desire. And fans? They revel in their sweeping existential terror that comes with a fetish for femininity.

New album: BESERK
Their 3rd one following debut Fixations (2014)
and sophomore one No Nostalgia (2022).

Press Info: At its core, Berserk is a frenetic response to the shifting tides of life.
An album that is unapologetically queer and embodies the chaos of an era where
nothing feels stable, where the self is both the center of its own universe and being
sucked into the disorienting orbit of a hyper-connected, hyper-consumptive culture.

Fiery and fully charged, Berserk tackle themes like love addiction, abandonment wounds, consumerism and aging, as the ever-present tension between self-empowerment and capitalist exploitation permeate the tracks.

Hoffman: “Everyone’s trying to improve, to ‘do the work,’ but the conundrum is:
there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism. This album is a snapshot of that
dilemma, wrapped in something catchy enough to make you want to dance–or
scream–a solution. “

TUTV: This is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most exciting-striking-electrifying records I heard all year. Not one dull moment. The cliché All killers, no fillers is definitely accurate here. Hoffman‘s vivacious vision to mix post-punk, garage rock, amplified bubblegum pop, rap and roll hubbub, synth pizazz and turning it all into a non-stop rumbustious party is quite remarkable.

My ears hear echoes of Gang Of Four‘s staccato guitar riffs, early Talking Heads‘ punk funkiness, Devo‘s witty electro madness and the in-your-face flamboyance of female British indie legends The Slits. Awesomely cool, right? You betcha. Listen world, stand up and fight for your right to go berserk to Agender‘s pyrotechnics. One more thing: don’t forget to give the middle-finger to all LGBTQ haters. Fuck them.

THE VEILS Stir With Melodramatic Beauty On Their 6th LP ‘ASPHODELS’

New Zealand band THE VEILS centred around singer/songwriter Finn Andrews
bagged their 6th LP, named it Asphodels and will release it on January 24th.

The album takes its name from the Ancient Greek flower of the Underworld, and lyrically, Andrews draws more from the great poets than he does from the well of more traditional rock and roll songwriters.

Andrews: “I feel as though this album is the end result of a now disconcertingly long career in music. I think after your 7th album, much like turning 40, you should really just stop counting. I’ve learned a lot along the way, which I suppose is the whole point, and I’ve really distilled it all into these 9 songs. As always, I really just write about love and death – it’s a compulsion – and that is once again the case here. But I feel as though I’ve never been able to express this stuff rattling about in my brain quite as directly until now. I have rarely felt proud of anything I’ve made for very long, but this one feels different. It’s built on a strong foundation I think.”

It’s a beautiful thing to watch this album finally seeing the light of day. It is an album obsessed with matters of love, life and death – I hope these songs help people to process these rather hefty matters in the same way they’ve helped me.”

TUTV: Andrews‘ enthrals one again with songs of love and death, songs of hope
and loss. He evokes Nick Cave and Father John Mysty atmospherics where introspection, melancholia and contemplations stir heart and soul. The tone is almost acoustic throughout. The timbre is mellow, affectional and melodramatic.

Andrews‘s vulnerable vocals are heartbreaking at times and draw your aural attention uninterruptedly. He’s blessed with a spellbound voice that fits his romantic music perfectly. 9 ruminative ballads, 9 soft-hearted feats for laid-back evenings, away from
all outside noise. A memorable 2025 accomplishment.
