(Artwork album)

This terrifically impassioned, full-hearted and flamboyant Irishmen have shared 3 tasters off their upcoming full length, so far. Three fervid cuts making you want to hear the other 6 ones too. Now.

References? British bands such as Hard-Fi and The Futureheads popped up in my mind
but also the guitar-fueled swagger of NYC heroes Interpol with Paul Banks‘ melodramatic vocals resonated on my inner stereo. Three bands also driven by an eager temper and affective acuteness. Trust me, you will rave about this quartet after absorbing these
three emo-charged zingers. Holy shit.

NEIL YOUNG Releases Unreleased Album From 2001 – ‘TOAST’ Lands On 8 July

28 May 2022

Living legend NEIL YOUNG has a new, old album out in July ,
titled TOAST. It was recorded in 2001. Pre-order info here.

Young about the album: “Toast is an album that stands on its own in my collection.
Unlike any other, Toast was so sad that I couldn’t put it out. I just skipped it and went
on to do another album in its place. I couldn’t handle it at that time. 2001.

John Coltrane, one of my heroes, made some music at ‘Toast’ studio back in the day. It may have been called ‘Coast’ then, but maybe not. The name changed a few times back and forth. It was on Mission in SF. The back door opened onto an alley. It was so stuffy in there that we left the door open until one day we saw rats coming in and out. After that, we just went outside for a smoke.

The music of Toast is about a relationship. There is a time in many relationships that go bad, a time long before the break up, where it dawns on one of the people, maybe both, that it’s over. This was that time.”

Ahead of the release, we get one track.

Standing In The Light Of Love is a vintage Young cracker.

Keep on rockin’ in the free world, Neil…

JEFF TWEEDY And WILCO Launched New Double Album ‘CRUEL COUNTRY’

New longplayers

JEFF TWEEDY and his band WILCO
launch their 12th studio album today.
A double one called Cruel Country.

It features 21 Jeff Tweedy-penned tracks,
made almost entirely of live takes,
created with all six members together.

Pitchfork says: “On a 21-track double album recorded live in the studio, Wilco embrace
a simple, buoyant approach that hearkens back to Jeff Tweedy’s earliest work… There may
be a gentle current flowing through its 21 songs, but the sheer abundance can also feel overwhelming. As lovely as they often are, the songs seem to drift and float, and Cruel
Country plays less like a sculpted double album than a vividly detailed snapshot of a
particular moment in time.”
Score: 7/10.

Turn Up The Volume: Chicago songsmith Jeff Tweedy and his amigos are experts of electrical country music as they prove once more on this double LP. But as it often happens with double albums they’re too long which makes the quality go downwards.
Also here, it would have been a lot better to select the 11 best songs on 1 longplayer.

Rough Trade says: ‘Real Rare Whale’ is Dune Rats 4th long player and was recorded
with acclaimed producer Scott Horscroft. The band relocated to Eden on the south coast of New South Wales for three months at the height of the pandemic and set out to write an album that was opposite to the negativity going on in the world. The result is an album full of fun and melodic rock n’ roll.

The band says: “Real Rare Whale is hands down the fastest, funnest and most insane
album we’ve ever recorded. It’s an album that expresses the love of music and writing
songs. Songs that will be epic to play live to thousands of sweaty bodies having a great
time.”

Play That Funky Robot Music… EVERYTHING EVERYTHING – New Album ‘RAW DATA FEEL’ Out Now

Brand new longplayers

20 May 2022

Band: EVERYTHING EVERYTHING
Who: Fab indie-pop combo out of Manchester, UK
Active: Since 2007 / 6 studio LPs (new one included)

New album: RAW DATA FEEL
Out: 20 May 2022 / Order info here

NME says: “The band want to “revolutionise modern pop music” with a robot writing their lyrics – but the glistening instrumentation proves the focus here… To come up with the lyrics for the new record, Hogg created an A.I. bot and fed it with random information – the terms and conditions of LinkedIn, posts on 4Chan, Chinese philosophy and more – and worked with what it spat out. In a statement accompanying the release, he loftily claims that this way of working will “revolutionise modern pop music”. Perhaps one day it will, but not with this album… Higgs created the “fifth member of the band”, as he has called it, to help him switch off his pandemic-addled thoughts during his work on the album, and it turns out the singer put those extra few hours to good use – the music on ‘Raw Data Feel’ is the band’s best, catchiest and most focused to date.” Score 4/5.

Turn Up The Volume says: That EE robot is a pop machine producing funky dance tune after funky dance tune with a vivid vibrance and a get-up-and-go impact on your limbs. Everything feels good, everything feels alrighy.

THE ROLLING STONES – Double Live Album Of 1977 Gigs In MOCAMBO CLUB In TORONTO Comes Next Week

Coming up

7 May 2022

The imperishable Rolling Stones celebrate their 60th birthday as a band this
year. Unreal, really, unreal. Many things will happen to mark this milestone. Like
this ready-to-release live album.

Back in 1977 Jagger & co played two secret gigs in Canada.

I never understood the term secret. Something that always confused me. How
can a gig be secret when there are people in the venue? No secret for the audience present, otherwise they wouldn’t have been there. Right?

Whatever. The registration of the best moments of the two club gigs at the legendary Mocambo Club (300 cap.) in Toronto in 1977 lands next week, on 13 May.

Ahead of it these two tasters.

– TUMBLING DICE –

– HOT STUFF –

Of course, not long after the two concerts, a bootleg saw the light (the darkness) of the day (the night). It contained only a part of the set and was recorded by their soundman Eddie Kramer with the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio. So it wasn’t that illegal and probably done with The Stones permission. Could it be that these recordings are used for the upcoming, official release? We’ll see/hear next week.

Below the front and back cover of the bootleg.

The rawk ‘n’ roll oldtimers celebrate the band’s
60th birthday with shows in Europe/UK

Restless Soul SHARON VAN ETTEN Released Her Best Album So Far With ‘WE’VE BEEN GOING ABOUT THIS ALL WRONG’

New longplayers

7 May 2022

Artist: SHARON VAN ETTEN
Who: Eminent singer-songwriter born
in Belleville (New Jersey) 41 years ago
Active: Since 2007 / 6 studio LPs (new one incl.)

New album: WE’VE BEEN GOING ABOUT THIS ALL WRONG
Released: 6 May – order info here

Uncut Magazine (British music monthly): “We’ve Been Going… is above all an incredible sounding record. Across its 10 tracks, it incorporates the Jupiter synths and saturnine beats of Remind Me Tomorrow and the stark, swooning strum of her early records to create truly a cosmic dynamic range, from the softest whisper to the most desolate scream.” Score: 4/5.

Turn Up The Volume: More orchestral and even more poignant than before. Not one mediocre track here. My ears tell me that this is Van Etten‘s top-of-the-range album (so far). The restless soul spellbinds from start to finish.

Her heavenly voice, her passional stories and her five-star songwriting
competency are the key components of this masterly achievement.

Btw, Sharon also surprised her fans
(like me) by not dropping singles ahead of the LP release.

Key tracks: Darkness Fades / I’ll Try / Anything / Headspace / Mistakes
