Happy Birthday To Ocean Child YOKO ONO

YOKO ONO was born as oʊnoʊ (pronounced OH-noh in English and romanized
Ono Yōko), on 18 February 1933), in Tokyo, Japan. Happy 89 to the multimedia and performance artist, singer-songwriter, and peace activist.

For millions of people, she’s only known as John Lennon‘s widow and for being, allegedly, responsible for The Beatles break-up in 1970, although she made 14 solo albums (with the fascinating Warzone LP as the most recent one, released in 2018) and 8 LPs with husband John Lennon.

She received lots of critically praise on a regular basis for her musical exploits and today, on her birthday, several famous artists (David Byrne, Sharon Van Etten, Death Cab For Cutie, The Flaming Lips, Yo La Tengo, and more) pay tribute to Yoko with an album of mesmerizing covers, called Ocean Child: Songs Of Yoko Ono .

Active: 1988–1999, 2021-present

most successful one and Kingsize as their most recent one,
released in 1998, 24 years ago.

Tim Brown (bass/guitar): “The freedom of sharing files, comments, praise and
concerns made it possible to quickly make music where the beauty of the songs
shine through. As with all Boo Radleys music, there were no limitations on structure, instruments and sounds, but this time we all had freedom to express our thoughts
about the music we were making.”

TUTV: It’s almost Spring which is a good thing, and The Boo Radleys reappear
after 24 years with this new LP, out in Spring, which is even a better thing.
Their sunshine pop is most welcome in these grey times.

It’s Suicide‘s first-ever career-spanning collection featuring 16 remastered
tracks. The record also contains previously unreleased pieces. An unheard
version of Girl (from their 1977 debut LP) and the first version of Frankie
Teardrop (also from their debut).

friends and community. The pandemic highlighted all the ways we need each other,
and music happens to be my way of building bridges and encouraging inclusiveness
and positivity. That comes along with sadness and melancholy, but music sparks
change and movement.”

Partly sung in Spanish, partly in English. Echoes from good old Western
movies, where the sun burns, amigos are drinking in the bar and life is
good until the bad guys come into town.

If you can make it in Leeds, you can make it everywhere, and when iconic
crooner Elton John says he’s a fan (read all about it here) you know you’re
a crocodile rock band on the verge of world domination.

Anyway, on 4 August 2020 Turn Up The Volume wrote this about
the second single, titled Fixer Upper, by a band he discovered
called YARD ACT from Leeds…

“Prepare for a mind-messing crackerjack that’ll do your head in the way you like it. This funky
as bloody hell banger sounds as if Mike Skinner and Sleaford Mods joined forces to experiment with intoxicating guitar riffs to turn up the decibels on for once. Fixer Upper is an electrifying post-punk rap slam with a repetitive bass-tastic groove having an instant bang-up impact on your body movements. Stupendous boombox stuff, stupendous shake-and-quake vibrations, stupendous street story. Original pirate turbulence, indeed.”

Today, 18 months later Fixer Upper passed the 1 million streams mark on Spotify…
