NIGHTJACKET – Los Angeles’ Pop Dreamers Captivate With Emotive Beauty ‘MY ONLY HEART’

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

16 February 2025

Band: NIGHTJACKET
Who: Dream pop band based in Los Angeles. Formed in 2014. With lush soundscapes, pulsing beats, and soaring vocals, they have received critical acclaim from various media outlets including Stereogum, SPIN, American Songwriter, Buzzbands LA, and Under the Radar. They released their debut album Beauty In The Dark in 2019.

Track: MY ONLY HEART

An intimate and soaring love song that encapsulates the glow of devotion.
A sonic love letter, exuding warmth, nostalgia, and undeniable romance.

Jordan Wiggins (guitarist/vocalist): “I was trying to capture a glimpse of how Danielle makes me feel. She’s so bright, which I think “My Only Heart” conjures with its resonant, swirling guitars and grooving rhythm section. At the same time, she’s down to earth and comforting, which Andrea’s vocals really drive home.

The song got faster and faster in tempo the more we worked on it. The demo was significantly slower, and I think the version you hear is maybe the third iteration of recording. Louie [Schultz] (multi-instrumentalist) brought some beautiful strings to the track late in the recording process, partially inspired by the Eurythmics’ Here Comes the Rain Again.”

TUTV: This endearing little guitar-pop gem captures your aural attention from
the first chord on. The song’s lovey-dovey sentiments and starry-eyed, glistening
sparkles, combined with tender vocals, bring two heart-and-soul touching, romantic
voices to mind. Belly’s Tanya Donelly and The Sunday’s Harriet Wheeler one.

My Only Heart‘s desirous devotedness bewitches.
Butterflies everywhere. Music for the midnight hours.

Band: A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS
Who: Infamous psych-noiseniks from Brooklyn, NY
led by founder/mastermind Oliver Ackermann
Track: END OF THE NIGHT
TUTV says: A razzle-dazzle and spine-and-mind-chilling thriller sounding
like Nine Inch Nails going punk, Spacemen 3 returning from the dead and
The Brian Jonestown Massacre freaking out on acid, all at the same time.
This is what happens when lockdown blues leads to schizophrenia.

Step into the darkness…

Band: FIGHTMILK

TUTV says: If a band introduces a new piece as follows “Putting the ‘angry’
in ‘Shangri-La’s’, this is arguably our pettiest song
“, you just want to press play
and go gaga. Punked-up energy, in-your-face vocals, amplified top pop shot.

Let’s roll…

.

Press play for some ass-kicking rawk ‘n’ roll

Band: NIGHTJACKET
Who: Dream-pop quartet from Los Angeles
Track: BURN THROUGH THE ATMOSPHERE
TUTV says: Close your eyes and you’ll hear the starry-eyed voice of Harriet Wheeler, front lady of former daydreamers The Sundays. You’ll also hear romantic pop sparks floating somewhere up there in the blue sky. Summer is in the air.

Enjoy the trip…

.
Artist: LUKE SWEENEY
Who: Singer/songwriter from San-Francisco
Track: TIE MAO TO MINED
“This song has traveled a long ways and continues to morph in a variety
of ways, but the theme remains: it’s a mind you can trick into confinement,
consignment, or alignment,”
says the author.
TUTV says: Back to the 60s, back to the psychdelic flower power era,
back to never-never land, while the restless mind continues its endless
quest for freedom.
