THE BEATLES Released Hit Single ‘NOWHERE MAN’ Today 60 Years Ago

Top singles from the past

21 February 2026

THE BEATLES (1960-1970) released NOWHERE MAN, one of the many highlights
of their game-changing LP Rubber Soul as a single in America and Canada, this
day 60 years ago, on 21 February 1966.

The song was written by John Lennon and credited to the Lennon–McCartney
partnership. Both in the US and Canada the song topped the charts.

Lennon reflected in a 1980 Playboy interview: “I’d spent five hours that morning
trying to write a song that was meaningful and good, and I finally gave up and lay
down. Then ‘Nowhere Man’ came, words and music, the whole damn thing as I lay
down.

The song is generally credited as being among the first
Beatles ones, not pertaining to themes of romance or love.

He’s a real nowhere man
Sitting in his nowhere land
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody

Doesn’t have a point of view
Knows not where he’s going to
Isn’t he a bit like you and me?””

MONALISA TWINS With Striking BEATLES Cover – Here’s ‘NOWHERE MAN’

24 February 2021

The MonaLisa Twins – twin sisters and singer-songwriters Mona and Lisa
Wagner
– were born in Austria, but are currently based in the Liverpool area.

They’re pretty famous on YouTube for their video covers of Beatles classic and
versions of other 60s hits, many of which have been released on albums. Their
newest Fab Four cover is Nowhere Man. A poignant 1965 Lennon song about
many of us.

The Wagner sisters explain why they chose this one: “We like to focus on the things we
do have, we can control, we can change and all the good people we have in our lives. And to remember those that are no longer with us, too. We sadly lost Steve, a very special friend in October 2019, right before the madness set in. He was a huge Beatles fan who loved intricate harmonies as much as we do. That’s why we recorded this song for him.”
