9 April 2021

Band: OCEAN COLOUR SCENE (Birmingham, UK)
Active: since 1989 / 10 albums (so far) latest: Painting (2013)

Album: MOSELEY SHOALS – 2nd LP
Released: 8 April 1996 – 25 years ago
Score: No 2 in the UK and Scotland

AllMusic / Stephen Thomas Erlewine : “They sprinkle Beatlesque and Stonesy
flourishes throughout the album, as well as the odd prog rock flair, adding an even
more eclectic flavor to their traditionalist pop/rock. Ocean Colour Scene are still
developing their songwriting skills — the sound is more impressive than the songs
throughout Moseley Shoals, but their second album is an unexpectedly enjoyable
record.”
Full review: here. Score: 4.5/5.

Turn Up The Volume: OCS formed at the peak of the Madchester craziness
and become popular as a Britpop band, while they always sounded to me as
a characteristic English blues-rock band, think The Pretty Things / The Animals.
You can also hear that Paul Weller was a big fan.
