1. ‘Starting And Staring’ by GUSTAF (NYC)

The swirling 5-piece from Brooklyn led by charismatic frontwoman
Lydia Gammil released their 2nd album Package Pt. 2 last April.

Lead single Starting and Staring is a knockout.

Funkier than the B-52’s in their heyday, and they spin around
with more dash and class than Bodega and Parquet Courts.

Let’s roll.

2. ‘Mustang’ by KINGS OF LEON (Nashville, US)

The Nashville family launched their 9th album
named Cand We Please Have Fun’ last May.

Peak piece Mustang is a roasting steamroller that
turns up the heat even more when the cooking chorus
kicks in.

3. Ticking by SPRINTS (Ireland)

The flabbergasting energy these ear-splitting loud Irish beatniks develop on their ace debut LP Letter To Self is off the charts. The opener Ticking is what these 4 Irish indies
do on repeat. Building a near-unbearable tension and exploding insanely along the rough ride.

4. ‘U Should Not Be Doing That’ by AMYL AND THE SNIFFERS (Australia)

Since this Australian punk tornado released their 2nd
longplayer Comfort To Me back in 2021 they’re on an
endless tour around the globe.

Yet, in between all gig mayhem they found some time to write/record/release
two new searing sucker-punches with U Should Be Doing This as my favourite.

Amyl: ‘This song makes me laugh, but it’s also in a way poking fun at the shock that
people still feel at a little bit of skimpy clothing, and the bitchy high school way that
the music community still is.’

5. ‘Hallelujah’ by BAD MOVES (Washington D.C.)

Washington‘s flamboyant guitar pop quartet release
their 3rd LP, baptized Wearing Out The Refrain next
September.

On Hallelujah they rage against the anti-LGBTQ
machine with knives between their teeth and an
unstoppable drive.

“To express oneself, now expressly forbidden/ That’s a spiritual hell, that’s
a new prohibition/ And they’ll boil you down to reproductive function/ When
they see you as a vessel and not as a person!”

6. ‘Sink Ya Teeth’ by THE MYSTERINES (UK)

Sink Ya Teeth from their 2nd LP, named Afraid Of Tomorrows
which came out last month, is a a maddening master blaster.

7. ‘Body Of Mine’ by LAMBRINI GIRLS (Brighton, UK)

The feminist-punk duo went nuclear the past year following their
amazeballs 6-track EP You’re Welcome and this year’s bulldozing
and gender-themed missile Body Of Mine.

8. ‘Starburster’ by FONTAINES D.C. (Ireland)

Irish indie stars FONTAINES D.C. will share their 4th LP,
named ROMANCE with the world on August 23rd.

The lead single Starburster is a feverish corker
with a bone-chilling gush and frontman Grian
Chatten rapping all over it with his characteristic
uptight parlando.

New look, new vibe, new feat.

9. Danzig With Myself’ by THE DANDY WARHOLS (Portland)

Last March the Dandys came up with their 12th album, named Rockmaker.

Lead single Danzing With Myself features Pixies‘ general Frank Black and
is a gloomy and doomy groover. With its poignant progression, this piece
creeps under your skin in an eye/ear blink.

10. ‘Aeroplane’ by THE LIVING PINS (Austin, TX)

These two electrifying Amazons hit the bullseye with this
jagged jackhammer from their rawk-ing EP Let It Be So.

Imagine 60s British glam rock legends T. Rex and
American trash duo Royal Trux jamming together.

11. ‘Repeat After Me’ by RAPTUROUS (Kent, UK)

UK’s rock/hip-hop team Rapturous invite us to scream
our lungs out on their avid anthem that celebrates freedom.

“The song was inspired by the old blues style of call & response, we wanted to create something that could be easily sung back to us by the crowd. The song is about being free from anything that is getting you down, be it your job, finances, the world, or the weekend’s football scores. Freedom from misery, that’s the idea.”

Think Cypress Hill fronted by Zack de la Rocha,
rattling like a rapid-fire riot-gun.

12. ‘All The Same’ by FAT DOG (South London)

Fat Dog are coming up faster than an out-of-control comet.

These bloodhounds are working on their debut LP.
One of the shared tracks (so far) is this disco-punk
axe.

13. ‘Oh Shit’ by THE LIBERTINES (UK)

British infamous mavericks dropped their 4th album
called All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade last April.

Oh Shit was one of the singles. A shit-along crackerjack sung by
Carl Barât and joined on the chirpy chorus by his buddy Doherty.

Oh fun.

14. ‘A Foretold Ecstasy’ by MAYFLOWER MADAME (Norway)

This Norwegian band specializes in a dark and distinctive blend
of post-punk, shoegaze and psych-noir. So far they released two
albums.

On this new, superb single drums and bass team up for an
incessantly beat that carries this instantaneously sticking ride,
along with a magnetizing Cure-esque guitar riff that gets you in
a trance.

Truly hypnotizing from start to finish with velvety vocals
and darkwavish synths in the back adding a twilight tone.

Top-tier tune.

15. ‘Lights Down Low’ by DIE SEXUAL (Los Angeles)

This hepped-up EBM duo conjure their influences of EBM, techno and electropop,
their sound is an intoxicating mix of analog synthetics and seductive vocals, touching
on themes of desire and despair, domination and submission.

They have a new 3-track EP, titled Inservio out, with opener Lights Down Low
as my favorite. An electro booster with a mindblowing techno beat à la The Prodigy
that rotates irresistibly, non-stop.

16. ‘Big Time Nothing’ by ST. VINCENT (Oklahoma)

Glamorous songstress St. Vincent delivered
her 7th LP All Born Screaming last April.

High-spot cut Big Time Nothing is a 24-carat
pumping dancefloor knockout.

Party time.

17. ‘S o f t e r by VIRGINS (Ireland)

This Belfast-based shoegaze team made an impact on my ears
last April, with their notable debut LP nothing hurt and anything
was beautiful

Lead single Softer is a psychedelic shoegaze stunner, a multi-layered symphony
propelled by about a thousand guitars, a mindboggling bass riff, and combative
drums, while Rebecca Dow‘s ghostly vocals scrape the sky. A  titanic thrill.

18. ‘Peace Sign’ by RIDE (UK)

The shoegaze veterans scored an excellent
opus with their 7th LP, named Interplay

The album’s first single Peace Sign
is a sickly sticky pop earworm with
an orgasmic chorus.

19. ‘I Don’t Understand What Any Of You Are Doing’ by DEAD ANYWAY (UK)

This British duo combine the dark lyricism of Kate Arnold
against the music and soundscapes of Marc Symonds.
They caught my attention with last February‘s top album
Partially Eaten By Animals.

Highlight ‘I Don’t Understand What Any Of You Are Doing’ dives into trip-hop-pop territory with Arnold‘s crystal clear voice floating all over shiny synth dynamics. Catchy as hell.

20. ‘Welcome Tou Your New Future’ by LEG PUPPY 2.0 (London, UK)

This madcap techno act scored their best (so far)
album with Humanity 2.0 which came out last May.

You can shake your (p)elvis to single Welcome To Your New
Future while getting nervous about the unknown tomorrow.

What’s in store for humankind. Nuclear war or peace and free love?
Or will we be just another brick in the wall? Whatever happens,
never stop pirouetting yourself dizzy to manic music .

We don’t need your education
We don’t need no your thought control

21. ‘Just Like Everybody Else’ by SPIELMANN (Leeds, UK)

This cut features on Spielmann‘s new, splendid
EP, titled Fifteen Minutes With Spielmann

Just Like Everybody Else is a glorious, full-orchestrated pop gem, that transfers you in an eye/ear blink to a sonic dreamland with its affecting melodiousness, riveting chorus and warm-hearted vocals. Three highly-entertaining minutes and twenty seconds with Spielmann

22. ‘Just Another Rainbow’ by LIAM GALLAGHER & JOHN SQUIRE (UK)

New star tandem Gallagher-Squire produced/released their debut LP last March.

The lead-single Just Another Rainbow is partly Oasis, partly Stone Roses.
Liam sings like Liam (who else?) and Squire does his psychedelic 6-string
Stone Roses thing.

Infectious lads rock.

23. ‘Close Enough’ by STRESS DOLLS (Buffalo, NY)

Stress Dolls is the musical moniker of songstress Chelsea O’Donnell.
Last May she released her enchanting debut album Queen Of No.

Close Enough is one of my favorite tracks. A captivating pop song.
Tantalizing tunefulness, glistening guitar sparks, and gratifying vocals
combine for a top tune.

24. ‘Red’ by YOKOPHONO (Finland)

This is how British blues rock titans Royal Blood would sound if their
producer is a fanatic post-punk fan. Red is a riff-rough stormer.

The crude combination of hammering drums, stoner rock electricity,
and firm vocals create a shocking effect. Yokophono is a RED-hot 2-piece.

Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds have canned album number 18.
It’s baptized Wild God and will show up on August 30.

The title track is a sublime composition. The first part is crooner Cave as we know him,
but quickly the vocal passion and goosebumps intensity go up and from halfway on, this diamond turns into an orchestral masterpiece, with a zealous hallelujah choir and an opera-like majesty.

Best piece they wrote in years. Breathtaking.

This disco-punk sucker-punch is just perfect to start and end all (il)legal
club nights with. High Value Man is a jiving bass-insane jackhammer that
doubles your adrenaline production on the spot and triggers your hottest
body contortions.

The orgastic ‘dance with me’ chorus revs up the sultry temperature and invites you to go mental, like a kangaroo on E. London‘s boiling dancefloor wackadoos Warmduscher should take these Welshmen/woman on the road with them. Frisky fun guaranteed. Machos not allowed.

6. ‘Running’ by PEARL JAM (Seattle, US)

Seattle‘s rock giants led by towering voice Eddie Vedder are back in business.
They canned their 12th longplayer, called it Dark Matter and they will share
it with the world on April 19.

Single Running sounds like if Vedder & Co
found their young razor-blade rock legs again.

9. ‘Stage Fright’ by ROYAL CASTLES (Ontario, CA)

Spring is in the air, titillating tunes are in the air, like this frisky one
that circles around a disco beat in overdrive, and has an instantaneous,
activating impact on your eager limbs.

Lively vocals and a jumpy synth chorus augment the briskness at play here.
Get up, stand up, take your blue suede shoes out of the closet and show us
your best hip moves. Shake your dancefloor fright off with this rad
head-over-heels twister.

10. ‘The Book’ by NIXER (Dublin/London)

The Book is a pithy piece from their upcoming EP, called
‘I Hit The Town And The Town Hit Me Back’ out on May 17.

The song’s theme was inspired by 1999 fictional love novel
Sputnik Sweatheart by Japanese writer Haruki Murakami.

Expect a synth-adrenalizing thrill, a head-spinning belter,
infused with whirlwind vocals and UK garage dynamics. Imagine
The Streets on acid or Yard Act pressing the accelerator.

11. ‘Diana’ by AUTOGRAMM (Seattle/Chicago/Vancouver)

Diana comes out of the gates like a speed train and never looks back.
Dynamizing synths start the rapid trip, the powerhouse drum/bass
engine pushes the rotating rhythm with vivid vigour, and zippy vocals
complete the accelerating sonic picture.

12. ‘Oceanos Sangrientos’ by EL KINTANO Y LA VENEREA (Spain)

Great rock music has no boundaries.

No, I don’t speak/understand Spanish, but hey, there are a lot of English/American hardcore/punk bands that scream and shout in such a cacophonous way, that I have no clue whatsoever what they’re on about. Who of you understand, except the people from Iceland, what world-famous orchestral pop outfit Sigur Rós, are singing about? It’s always about the music first.

Oceans Sangrientos is a titanic psychedelic blast. Be ready for a wall-of-fuzzing-and-buzzing guitar attack. Think The Brian Jonestown Massacre turning up their amps to the max and coming up with layers of mind-blowing electricity. Blimey.

13. ‘Op-Operator’ by THE SHANG HI-LOS (Boston, US)

These Boston rockers let the good times roll. Op-Operator is a dynamite
power pop tune that gets you out of your bed, after a night on the town
and triggers your limbs to start partying all over again.

14. ‘Trying’ by YOKOPHONO (Finland)

This is how British blues rock titans Royal Blood would sound if their producer

The German capricious bohemians, fronted by bad seed Blixa Bargeld unleash their album number 13, a double one, baptized Rampen ( Amp: Alien Pop Music) on April 5.

First single Ist Ist is a jittery piece of intoxicating
music, motorized by a Sturm und Drang bass riff.

Faszinierend.

16. ‘Wild God’ by NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS (Australia)

Nick Cave and his iconic bad seeds band have bagged album #18.
It’s called Wild God and will hit the streets on August 30.

him, but quickly the vocal passion and goosebumps intensity goes up and from halfway on, the song turns into an orchestral masterpiece, with a zealous hallelujah choir and an opera-like majesty. Best piece they wrote in years.

17. ‘Anna Madonna’ by MAX BLANSJAAR

Blansjaar is an up-and-coming 21-year-old singer-songwriter
born in Amsterdam, raised in Oxford, now based in Brooklyn.

Anna Madonna echoes Ezra Koenig and Vampire Weekend. It’s a frolicsome tune that flutterers around in your head like a happy-go-lucky butterfly. A sweet little pop gem.

18. ‘Back To The Beginning’ by WORLDCLUB (Wales)

Worldcub are a group from North Wales piloted by brothers Cynyr (guitar & vocals) and Dion Hamer (drums & vocals). They produce material from their home studio on the hills of Eryri, splicing together elements of surf guitar music, kraut-rock grooves and hypnotic psych tinged Cymru vocal harmonies.

They have their new album ‘Back to the Beginning’ out 17th of May.

The title track gets under your skin from the kick-off with its
bass-pulsating groove, its breezy guitar sparks, and its layered,
affecting harmonies.

19. ‘This Is Nowhere’ by THE BLACK KEYS

The blues-rock tandem have their 12th LP,
titled Ohio Players ready for release on April 5th.

Single This Is Nowhere is a surprising, mid-tempo, power
pop ballad, far away from their rough trademark sound.

20. ‘Waiting Forn You’ by T BONE BURNETT (US)

The 76-year-old singer-songwriter/producer has recorded his 15th solo
full-length, his first in 18 (!) years. The Other Side comes out on April 19.

First single ‘Waiting For You’ is a vintage romantic, longing, bittersweet, sentimental and good old ballad. I’m a sucker for lullabies like this (certainly after a day with lots of noisy music) that calm me down and touch my heart and soul. Burnett‘s warm voice and crystal guitar play turn this song into a wonderful, timeless, and charming musing. A universal love song.

No Economy is a battle cry against the hyper rich properties and second homes bursting from Cornwall’s ancient clifftops. Taking the perspective of the desperate Cornish native, the song holds back zero punches, laying all the problems of London Money with zero subtlety.

TUTV: From the handclaps and a-cappela intro on, you feel ecstasy running throughout your veins. This tantalizing tune is just irresistibly sticky. If your body doesn’t react when this high-spirited protest chant hits your headphones, check your meds.

3. ‘Mirror Muscles‘ by SOFT PLAY (UK)

This British post-punk duo know as Slaves until 2022. (“The name ‘Slaves’ is an issue
and doesn’t represent who we are as people or what our music stands for any longer.”

TUTV: This new track off their upcoming 4th LP is a reckless shocker
combing hardcore aggressivity and punk dynamite. Hallelujah.

“We love to work out. We frequent the local gymnasium.
These are some thoughts we had while we were there”.

4. ‘Pistol Whip’ by TOTALLY SLOW (North Carolina)

Pistol Whip is this ferocious band’s third single from their forthcoming fourth LP,
titled The Darkness Intercepts will be launched on March 22 via Refresh Records.

Scott Hicks (guitarist and vocalist): “We wanted to find a more dynamic balance for this record. The track order wasn’t taken lightly and there are lot of interesting samples and between-song transitions that I hope folks can find the time to receive fully as a whole piece. “Pistol Whip” is a tone-switch, and brings the BPM down a bit. The intensity level is still peaking but it still feels like breathing space – with lyrics conveying that we live inside of chaos and trying to find some peace in accepting the intractable nature of “being”. So it’s a sonic break and really an emotional break as well.”

TUTV: With this riff-insane projectile Totally Slow goes totally hard. Although the band says they’re taking a breather here – oh my, what a hazardous volcano album is waiting around the corner to be unleashed? – the combative level is huge. This in their face middle finger for all rotten politicians is loud and clear.

Hell yeah.

5. ‘My Favourite Place’ by CADET CARTER feat. Kayleigh Goldsworthy (Germany)

Pop Punk and Emo music has seen a remarkable resurgence over the past year. Although Cadet Carter consider themselves very much part of this genre, their sound is much closer to the likes of Jimmy Eat World and Taking Back Sunday. CC have a new album, called Self-Maintenance out on April 12, 2024

TUTV: This new piece has an instant electrifying impact with its bouncy riff rhythm
and vivid duet vocals and goes wholly heartfelt on the ardent chorus. You know
where to find the repeat button. Top thrill.

6. ‘Strangers’ by TUSKS (London)

London-based artist Emily Underhill aka TUSKS will have her new album GOLD out
on April 12. Strangers is the newest track off the longplayer.

TUTV: Synth splendor, affecting pop melodiousness,
and impassioned vocals come together here and will
undoubtedly seduce your ears.

7. ‘Wild God’ by NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS (Aus)

Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds have canned album number 18. It’s baptized Wild God and will be shared with the world on August 30. The LP is produced by Cave and his buddy Warren Ellis.

Along with the news came the title track.

One word: BRILLIANT.

8. ‘Working Hard’ by DARK MEAN (Hamilton, Canada)

The musical project of Dark Mean refuses to slip away for good. The collective has been quietly chipping away in their Hamilton, Ontario studio. Once again they have focused their spontaneous fits of inspiration, typically captured on basic phone apps and wired between Ottawa and Hamilton, into something concrete.

About the new composition: “In terms of what inspired the song, or the lyrics… umm probably desperation. Feeling so desperate for something to happen while full-well knowing time is not on your side and there is nothing you can do but wait. So the opening of the track begins with this sort of cathartic release “Working hard, killing time. I woke up wrong, just to feel right.” Doing nothing is often harder than doing something, right?”

Chicago‘s double sisters indie act just released two new songs: Box and Anyway

About BOX: “A life-changing” experience. We all were beaming and screaming and we just felt so good. The four of us all hopped in the vocal room and together, recorded the lyrics, ‘over again, never be all yours.’ Creating this part of the song is one of my favorite memories of being a musician.”

TUTV: Totally captivating. This goosebumps power ballad grabs your aural intention
right away. The contrasting vocals create an echoing intenseness fueled by incandescent guitars. The build up/break down vehemence feels as if an emotional eruption is about to happen any second, but instead we get a surprising choir-like finale and an abrupt end.

Fascinating.

10. ‘Wounded’ by TODDY (Vancouver, Canada)

There are seemingly endless possibilities to self-expression, and Vancouver-based comedian and trained opera singer Toddy is out there breaking new ground. With a winning combination of drag, standup comedy, opera, classical and pop music, Toddy (she/they) is redefining the very idea of pop stardom.

Debut single, “Wounded,” is very strategically written to be for several different types
of relationships whether it be family, romantic or friendship. Inspired by abusive relationships Toddy has been in, they wanted a wide variety of victims to be able to
put themselves into this song.

TUTV: Toddy‘s heart-and-soul touching voice stands out on this stunning debut. Wounded is an arresting piece of melodrama that stirs and arouses feverish sentiments. Impressive, artistic introduction.
