Paranoid
WAKE-UP CALL By Australian Bashers DZ DEATHRAYS And Their Brand New Steamroller ‘PARANOID’
Works faster and harder than caffeine
24 November 2022
Last year Australian post-punk bashers DZ DEATHRAYS released
their 5th longlayer called PosItive Rising Pt. 2 and return now with
brand new steamroller, titled PARANOID.
Shane Parsons (frontman): “I think at the time I was thinking about the way
I kept questioning myself in different aspects in life. Loosely it’s about that, wanting
to go in a certain direction with something but having this lingering thing stopping
you or setting up roadblocks here and there.”

Waking Up… Paranoid
Inbetweenies! BLACK SABBATH Going Paranoid 51 Years Ago Today
What Turn Up The Volume is playing/ watching in between two coffees
Today 51 years ago, on 7 January 1970, metal freaks BLACK SABBATH released their
2nd LP PARANOID. The longplayer was originally titled War Pigs (the opening track) but the record company made it change in the end, out of fear for criticism from supporters of the ongoing Vietnam War. Anyway, the album topped the UK Charts and peaked at #12 in the USA.
Let’s get paranoid again…

Rolling Stone review: “It’s impossible to imagine what heavy metal would have
become without the iconic gloomy riff of ‘Iron Man’ the musical thickness of ‘War
Pigs’ and the rapid-fire chugging of ‘Paranoid.’… The music is dark and gloomy with
blues-inspired guitar riffs.’Paranoid’ was the sound of Black Sabbath’s reality, a plea for understanding that would resonate with millions of people feeling the same disaffection.”
Ozzy Osbourne: “Music gave me everything. I don’t have a trick,
I don’t know why, I don’t know how. I suppose it’s just what my fate
was, do you know what I mean?”

‘PARANOID’ Album By Metal Pioneers BLACK SABBATH Turned 50
20 September 2020
Band: BLACK SABBATH
Active: 1968–2006, 2011–2017
Album: PARANOID – the band’s 2nd LP
Released: 18 September 1970 – 50 years ago
Score: #1 in the UK (there only No 1 LP in England) and #12 in the US
Rolling Stone review: “It’s impossible to imagine what heavy metal would have become without the iconic gloomy riff of ‘Iron Man’ the musical thickness of ‘War Pigs’ and the rapid-fire chugging of ‘Paranoid.’… From the first track to the last, Ozzy Osbourne’s cutting voice outlines any manner of topics that would feature in metal over the next few generations: imminent doom, drug casualties, nuclear war, brutality, uncaring autocrats, cosmically fated love and general disillusionment. The music is dark and gloomy with blues-inspired guitar riffs that other groups have Xeroxed into an unrecognizable oblivion. Paranoid was the sound of Black Sabbath’s reality, a plea for understanding that would resonate with millions of people feeling the same disaffection, many of whom would form groups like Metallica, Pantera and Slipknot – groups that would change the face of metal, as well as the world.”
Ozzy Osbourne: “I got rabies shots for biting the head
off a bat but that’s OK – the bat had to get Ozzy shots.”
Key tracks: War Pigs / Paranoid / Iron Man
– WAR PIGS –
– PARANOID –
– IRON MAN –
