Last August the reunited art-punk rockers JANE’S
ADDICTION started the American part of their world
tour.
From the first gigs on, tensions within the band built up.
It came to a physical eruption a few weeks ago in Boston when frontman
Perry Farrell attacked guitarist Dave Navarro a couple of songs before the
end of the show.
New footage has emerged now. Actually shared by the band’s guitar and
bass tech of 17 years, who also said that Farrell had punched Navarro in
the face backstage afterward.
Here’s the clip. Farrell screeches like
a hoarse demon and loses his marbles.
The rest of the tour was cancelled and I guess the next news we will get is the announcement that the band split.
LOLLAPALOOZA was the banner devised by Perry Farrell for
the 1991 farewell tour of his Los Angeles-based band Jane’s
Addiction (who reunited later and are amidst their 2nd farewell
tour, right now).
It started in Chicago and has since become a defining cultural event for
alternative music enthusiasts worldwide, showcasing diverse talents and
fostering a global community of music and art lovers. Lollapalooza has also
become a platform for social change, encouraging activism and also
environmental consciousness.
The festival has since expanded into eight territories around the world
including Chicago, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Germany, France, Sweden and India.
A documentary series, named LOLLA: THE STORY OF LOLLAPALOOZA,
about the festival‘s conception and development over the years, has been
made now. It’s a three-part docu, premiering May 21 on Paramount+.

Farrell: “When a car is going real, real fast, it gets harder to jump out. Lollapalooza began in the summer of 1991 as a particularly underground event. In the more than three decades since, the festival has transformed into a popular culture staple where some of the biggest names in pop — from Ariana Grande and the Weeknd to Kendrick Lamar and Lana Del Rey — have delivered headlining performances.”
Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ice Cube, Soundgarden, Tool, Hole, Foo Fighters, Sonic Youth, Arrested Development, Primus, Alice in Chains, the Verve, Beastie Boys, the Breeders, A Tribe Called Quest, the Smashing Pumpkins, Moby, Coolio, Beck, the Pixies, Pearl Jam, Kim Petra, Steve Aoki, Miley Cyrus, Sinead O’Connor, Questlove & the Roots, the Ramones, are among the artists that appear in the trailer.
Last year Farrell decided to call it a day for PFP. But not without new music
and a farewell tour. At the end of last year, they shared two new tracks with Pete’s Dad andAqua and just ended their goodbye tour in Northern America.
But it’s only over when it’s over. Porno For Pyros
just shared their final single, titled FINGERNAIL
Farrell: “The moment the melody touched the words I knew it would be a special song.
But I was too immature to understand the essence fully. There is no pain in the cutting
of our hair, eyelashes or a fingernail, because they are dead, although the world at every instant is renewed. The death invested within us is pushed out, and the soul is again
restored.”
NYC born PERRY FARRELL (now aged 64) made a name for himself, mostly
with Jane Addiction but also with Porno For Pyros. For the latter Farell
just announced a 2024 farewell tour (dates below).
The news comes with a new song, named AGUA. The first
in 26 years. It tackles the climate issues on the West Coast.
Farrell: “The people who live here on the West Coast have a beautiful love and passion
for the Pacific Ocean. The ocean doesn’t look right, doesn’t feel right, doesn’t surf right.
You go and swim in it, and you get the creeps. The sunsets are different. We are really,
really screwing it up. We have to do something about it. I wanted to bring attention to
it through the best megaphone that I know, which is music.”
Agua is a high-powered pop tune going forth
and back with Farrell‘s evocative voice fueling it.
