of the Lesser Free Trade Hall in Manchester. Despite thousands claiming they were in attendance, only a handful of people were there, but those that were, went on to form bands including The Smiths, Buzzcocks, Joy Division and The Fall. The rest is iconic history…

First Issue ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE – 9 November 1967 – 52 Years Ago Today…

The very first issue of legendary monthly music magazine ROLLING STONE was published in San Francisco and issued on 9 November 1967, 52 years ago today. Founder Jan Wenner said that the magazine’s title was inspired by 1950 blues song ‘Rollin’ Stone’,  by Muddy Waters, and Bob Dylan‘s hit single Like A Rolling Stone and the by then very popular band we all know as The Rolling Stones.

The cover featured a photo of John Lennon dressed as the soldier he played that year
in the movie How I Won The War. The first issue also had a free roach clip to hold a marijuana joint. Here’s the front cover…

Heavy blues-rock legends LED ZEPPELIN released their untitled fourth album, simply referred to as ‘Led Zeppelin IV‘ or the Four Symbols LP on 7 November 1971, 48 years
ago today
. The 19th-century rustic oil painting on the front of the album was purchased from an antique shop in Reading, Berkshire by Robert Plant. The record featured their most famous song ever ‘Stairway To Heaven‘ and sold over more than 37 million copies.
