DEBBIE HARRY was born, named Angela Trimble on 1 July 1945. Happy 78
to the iconic and incomparably charismatic Blondie singer/co-songwriter and
Sunday pin-up girl.
Dave Grohl and his FOO FIGHTERS are notorious for bringing guests on at their concerts. They did it in the past, they do it now and will, I’m sure, to keep doing it in the future.
Back in 2002, at a show in NYC, they invited THE B-52’s frontman Fred Schneider for
the New Jersey legends’ super-duper trackPLANET CLAIRE from their super-duper 1979 debut LP.
That live version appeared much later, in 2019, later on a Foos live EP,
weirdly titled 00020225 along with 7 other live performances.
The love shack legends from Georgia, Athens call it a day this Friday, 11 November.
The last shows of their 2022 farewell tour. The curtain will fall at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, just outside the band’s hometown.
They started their fabulous career 46 years ago, back in 1976.
Fred Schneider (co-founder) “No one likes to throw a party more than we do, but after
almost a half-century on the road, it’s time for one last blow-out with our friends and family… our fans.”
Kate Pierson“Who knew what started as a way to have some fun and play music for our friends’ at house parties in Athens in 1977 would evolve into over 45 years of making music
and touring the world. It’s been cosmic.”
Cindy Wilson: “It has been a wild ride, that’s for sure,” said Cindy Wilson. “We feel truly blessed to have had an amazing career encouraging folks to dance, sing along with us and feel they can be whomever they are with our music.”
40 Years ago, on 6 July 1979 a totally weird looking combo out of Athens, Georgia called THE B-52’S released their amazing self-titled debut longplayer. A wacky mix of retro dance-pop and surfy funk twisted upside down and wrapped up brilliantly as the new chic back then and still sounding damn hip today! A solid gold masterpiece, a bona fide classic.
Rolling Stone wrote: “The debut by the B-52’s sounds like a bunch of high school friends cramming all their running jokes, goofy sounds and private nicknames into a New Wave
record. It turned out nobody could resist the band’s campy, arty funk, or the eccentric
squeals and bouffant hairdos of Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson…”

‘The B-52’s by THE B-52’s Released: 6 July 1979 – debut LP
BBC review: “By 1979 punk had gotten all grown-up. Metamorphosing into the bleaker, more serious genre of new wave, this was the dawn of the age of the long grey coat and European post-industrial chic. Therefore what a relief it was when along came the decidedly technicolour B-52’s (complete with the wayward apostrophe, grammar fans). And what an even greater surprise when, on their debut album, the band’s Dansette-style, dance-friendly pop blended perfectly with their retro new wave looks to create an all-time carefree classic.”
TURN UP THE VOLUME! says: A solid gold masterpiece, an unquestionable classic.
Still sounding crazy and totally gaga today.
