Band: PONY
Who: Guitar pop indies
from Toronto, CA.

Track: SWALLOWING STARS
Title track of their brand new EP.

“Swallowing Stars” is about being caught in the crosshairs of a relentless people pleaser. Drinking in every beautiful word they say, as if it wasn’t just a reflection of your own thoughts and ideas, and the ultimate letdown when you finally see behind the curtain. It’s like the scene in The Wizard Of Oz when the giant animatronic wizard’s head stops working and a little insecure man walks out from behind it.

Lively, fuzzy, and catchy.

Artist: FATHER JOHN MISTY
Who: American songsmith Joshua Michael Tillman, who played
with dream pop ensemble Fleet Foxes as their drummer from
2008 to 2012.

So far, he has released 8 LPs under his real name,
and 6 under his John Father Misty moniker.

Track: THE OLD LAW
New single.

FJM goes for a mid-tempo jam,
and he’s almost, I repeat almost
rockin’.

Artist: CATE LE BON
Who: The reputable Welsh songstress. She released
her 7th full-length Michelangelo Dying last September.

Track: ALWAYS THE SAME
New song from those album
sessions, featuring St. Vincent.

Le Bon: “Always The Same” needed a little more elbow room than the album would allow
but it is cousin to the song cycle of Michelangelo Dying, coming into formation in the same breath. Special to me because it features dear friend and mighty artist St. Vincent who occupies the space around me with composure and gravitas whilst I kick around in the dirty waters of love.”

When two vocal stars meet.

Artist: KATIE ALICE GREER
Who: Former frontwoman of Washington DC
punk rockers Priests. She has released two
albums so far.

Track: EXPO’ 70
Her brand new single.

“I know nothing so I’m going to the expo
Teach me what I don’t know, don’t know
Should I be living with my eyed closed?”

New, 10th Album
BUYER BEWARE

28 Feb 2025

Louder Than War says: “An album that draws in the blistering power that the prolific group are now known for, brushing it with touches of pop while at the same time lashing it with the ferocity of their 2011 album, Leave Home, and the proto-psychedelia of their 2010 debut. Bringing it all together, Buyer Beware just might be their most accomplished album to date.”

TUTV: Garage punk rock racket at its sharp-teethed best.
A non-stop salvo of pyrotechnics projectiles. Pretty insane.

New album artwork

Fuzz Club Records: “The Men have a work ethic as old school as their rock roots, yet despite the hustle they never appear to be rushing, a contradiction that somehow naturally resolves itself through their music. ‘Buyer Beware’ is no mere return to their roots—The Men have always moved forward while remaining true to themselves. A clarion call for troubled times signaled by its title, ‘Buyer Beware’ finds The Men tackling questions both personal and political, their sound and vision never more primal or apocalyptic.”

THE MEN – Brooklyn Psych Engines Go Mental On New Blitzkrieg Single ‘PONY’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

2 December 2024

Band: THE MEN
Who: Brooklyn-based psych rock squad with
8 longplayers under their belt and #9 ready
for 2025.

Track: PONY
Lead single of the New Yorkers‘s upcoming 9th album, named
Buyer Beware. It’ll land on February 24. More info here.

New album artwork

Mark Perro (guitarist/vocalist): “This one picked up the name Pony cuz it felt a little sugary and sweet. It was one of those things that just came out when we talked about the song and it stuck. I’m really happy with the fuzz tones we got on here, and the harmony vocals from Nick [Chiericozzi] and Jess [Poplawski] take this to another level. Lyrically, it’s about that transitional moment – when the jig is up.”

Pony is an unguided psych projectile that comes after your throat from the get-go. Blitzkrieg speed, paranoid guitars, unbridled percussion, and mental vocals. Sounds
tempting, right, music junkies? Damn bloody punk right!

Canadian Sensitive Pop Act PONY About The Two Edged Sword Called Lust On New Single ‘LIMERENCE’…

New sonic impulses

17 November 2019

(photo: Sarah Baumann)

PONY is the musical project of Toronto‘s artist Sam Bielanski and her band of friends claiming they make sweet grunge-pop that would be played on a high school roof at the end of a 90s teen movie.

They have a brand new single out called ‘LIMERENCE‘. A song about getting crushed by your crush, and the feelings that coincide with that. “We wanted to tell a story about how exciting it is to feel like you are falling in love, juxtaposed by feeling terrified that the other person might not be falling as hard as you. Lust is a double-edged sword” explains Bielanski.

‘Limerence’ has that mixed emotions feel and timbre of melancholic slacker bands such
as Dinosaur Jr. and Sebadoh combining tormented guitars sequences with a poppy tunefulness, turning the whole performance into a fetching enjoyment.

Check the lustful vibe here…
