GABBA GABBA HEY – 45 Years Ago Today
Works faster and harder than caffeine
31 December 1977
On 31 December 1977 – 45 years ago – rock ‘n’ roll high school legends RAMONES
played a sold out New Year’s Eve concert at the historic Rainbow Theatrein London.
And 45 years later the New York City punks still thrill millions of people, me included.
This live rendition of – their biggest slam dunk in my book – BLITZKRIEG BOP (more
than 200 million streams on Spotify) – that night still is gabba-gabba-hey glorious.

Back in time
4 November 2022
Band: RAMONES
Active: 1974–1996 / 14 LPS
Anniversary album:: ROCKET TO RUSSIA – 3rd LP
Released: 4 November 1977 – 40 years ago today
ALL MUSIC wrote: “Even with these (relatively) slower songs, the speed
of the album never decreases. However, the abundance of hooks and slight
variety in tempos makes Rocket to Russia the Ramones’ most listenable and
enjoyable album, it doesn’t have the revolutionary impact of the debut LPs,
but it’s a better album and one of the finest records of the late ’70s.”
Score: 5/5.
Turn Up The Volume: Their best jukebox album.
