BLONDIE Topped US Charts With ‘RAPTURE’ This Day 45 Years Ago

Top singles from the past

28 March 2026

Eternal pop heroes BLONDIE topped the US Singles Chart with
RAPTURE, this day 45 years ago. It was written by Debbie Harry
and Chris Stein, and appeared on their 5th LP, named Autoamerican.

It was the band’s 4th number-one in America and the first No. 1 song
in the US to feature rap and lyrics, notable for name-checking hip-hop
pioneers Fab Five Freddy (a good friend of the band) and Grandmaster Flash.

Rap it up, Debbie.

“Fab 5 Freddy told me everybody’s fly
DJ spinnin’, I said, “My, my”
Flash is fast, Flash is cool
François c’est pas, flashé no deux
And you don’t stop, sure shot
Go out to the parking lot”

Daily noise that works faster than any stimulant

25 December 2023

DEBBIE HARRY and CHRIS STEIN teamed up 2 years ago with hip-hop pioneer
FAB 5 FREDDY
(real name: Fred Brathwaite) for an Xmas rework of Blondie‘s 1981
hit The Rapture and named it Yuletide Throwdown.

Debbie: “It has been an impossible amount of time since I believed
in Santa Claus, but I could very well believe again if he was Freddy
Brathwaite!!”

Funky.
Vibey.
Bass-y.

Rap it up, folks.
Happy Xmas.
