Welsh notorious post-punk bulldozer MCLUSKY (originally known as Best)
was formed in 1996 by angry young man, singer/guitarist Andrew Falkous
and drummer Matthew Harding. In the following 9 years they released
3 longplayers.

In 2005 Falkous started the awesome Future Of The Left.

In 2014 Mclusky reunited and brought their sonic past back
on stage.

Their 3rd LP, THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOU AND
ME IS THAT I’M NOT ON FIRE turned 20 last April.

Pitchfork said: This album is like a delicious soup you eagerly
bring to your lips, only to jerk away because it’s too damn hot. “

JOHNNY MARR AND THE HEALERS was the short-lived band (2001-2004)
the iconic The Smith‘s guitar hero formed. They released only one album,
named Boomslang.

A deluxe reissue edition with 2CDs and on vinyl for the first time,
featuring no less than 9 previously unreleased tracks will see the
day of light on September 20th.

Here’s taster #3. THE WAY THAT IT WAS is another previously unreleased tune.
An immediately sticking ballad. A pure pop pearl with a melancholic resonance and impassioned and affecting Marr vocals. No idea why this gripping reverie was hidden
for so long. On the other hand, my ears are tremendously delighted for this beauty
being out now. It wouldn’t have been out of place on The Verve‘s 1997 classic ‘Urban Hymns‘.

MARK LANEGAN – 20th Anniversary Edition Of Album ‘BUBBLEGUM’ Out Now

MARK LANEGAN who was a member of many bands/projects (Screaming Trees,
QOTSA, The Gutter Twins and more) and scored 12 solo LPs, passed away in 2022,
at the age of 57. No cause of death was revealed.

One of his most praised albums, BUBBLEGUM
turned 20, two weeks ago, on August 10, 2004.

A 20th Anniversary Box set that includes a remastered double LP edition of the original album and a 4XLP/3XCD/Digital release containing 40 remastered tracks, 12 of which are previously unreleased, is out now. More info here.

A 20th-anniversary edition of the longplayer will be released as BUBBLEGUM XX
with a 2xLP vinyl reissue of the original album and a 4xLP/3xCD/digital release containing
40 remastered tracks. A dozen of those are previously unreleased, including ‘Union Tombstone’ with Beck and six tracks recorded in various hotel rooms with Queens Of
The Stone Age bandmate Troy Van Leeuwen.

Van Leeuwen: “So these hotel demo sessions were basically forgotten…When I heard the news of Mark’s passing, these memories started rushing back to me. I searched through my archive of drives and somehow magically was able to open up these sessions. I thought to myself, “That NEVER happens.

These ideas couldn’t be more fresh out of the tap. The original rough mixes are a real time capsule that stands up to the 20 years that have passed. It’s a true gift from Mark to those
of us who love him and his unvarnished expression of beauty. With every listen, I am humbled and honored to share his gift with you.”

The reissue box contains also a 64-page hardcover book with essays by Van Leeuwen,
Josh Homme, Chris Goss, Alain Johannes, David Catching, Greg Dulli, Duff McKagan, and
Brett Netson along previously unseen photographs by Steve Gullick.

In his 2017 memoir I Am The Wolf, Lanegan wrote about Bubblegum.

“I had been awake for days and nights, crazed from no sleep and illegal stimulants, and was sitting cross-legged on the studio floor with sheets of paper covered in handwritten lyrics, notes, and ideas strewn out around me in a ten-foot circle. While I had been out of my mind making records in the past, this was a new peak… or low, depending on one’s perspective… Many of the songs came from a place of dejection and ennui.”

SONIC YOUTH Will Release 1986 Live Bootleg Album ‘WALLS HAVE EARS’ Officially Next February

album that came out as a bootleg in 1986.

Press info: “Culled from three 1985 gigs in the UK during a transitional and transcendent time in the band’s story, Sonic Youth’s ‘Walls Have Ears’ appeared as a 2LP set in 1986, not just a live album but an artful tapestry full of live experimentation with songs, between-song tape segues, darkness, humor and audio verité on par with elements of side B of ‘Master Dik’ to come later. With a bit of complexity to the situation of the release itself. Deleted as quickly as it appeared, it’s now issued for the first time officially under the band’s auspices.”

LOU REED – His Final 2007 Ambient Album ‘HUDSON RIVER MIND MEDITATIONS’ Will Be Reissued On 12th January

The late genial LOU REED (1942-2013) released his final LP (not widely known),
titled Hudson River Wind Mediations in 2007.

It was his 12th solo one. A 67-minute journey through meditational/ambient music intended to relax the body, mind and spirit, adjunct to Tai Chi, an internal Chinese,
martial art for self-defense and health practiced by Reed.

Reed: “I first composed this music to play in the background of life. To replace the
everyday cacophony with new and ordered sounds of an unpredictable nature.”

The newly remastered Hudson River Wind Meditations will be available in double LP, CD
and digital formats on January 12. Physical editions include liner notes by yoga instructor and author Eddie Stern, plus a recent conversation with Reed’s widow Laurie Anderson.

SPACEMEN 3 – Reissue Of Their 2nd Album ‘FORGED PRESCRIPTION’ For The First Time On Vinyl In December

Iconic band SPACEMEN 3, featuring Sonic Boom a.k.a. Peter Kember
and Jason Pierce (Spiritualized), gained a cult following between 1981
and 1992 with their psychedelic, drug-infused, space rock escapades.
Drugs (what else?) led to clashes between the two wayward egos and
turned into a break-up.

They fabricated 4 studio albums.

Space Age Recordings just announced the reissue of their second
one FORGET PRESCRIPTION, for the first time ever on vinyl.

It’ll come as a double vinyl LP containing a myriad of alternative takes
and demo versions and including, at the time of the CD release, some
never before heard tracks.

Sonic Boom: ”For me, this is where the Spacemen 3 songwriting came to a head. Many
of these songs pre-dated “Sound Of Confusion”, some were even recorded at both sessions,
but I am still impressed mightily by Jason’s lyrical genius on originals like “Walking With Jesus” and re-writes like “Come Down Easy” and his fluid guitar playing across the whole sessions. To be sure “Playing With Fire” was soon to be our long and sultry Indian Summer but “Perfect Prescription” was the progeny of that hot, lazy (and occasionally rainy) summer.”

TRICKY – British Trip-Hop Legend Released An Extensive REINCARNATED Version Of His 1995 Magnum Opus ‘MAXINQUAYE’

British trip-hop artist TRICKY (born Adrian Nicholas Matthews 55 years ago in Bristol) started his solo journey, after a stint with Massive Attack with his 1995 magnum opus MAXINQUAYE.

He just released a re-issue of it featuring multiple remixes. It contains 49 pieces.

Press info: ‘Maxinquaye (Reincarnated)’ contains rarities and brand new versions of tracks many of which have not been officially released before. The single-LP contains the original album remastered at Abbey Road Studio. The super deluxe triple-LP set contains six new “Reincarnated” versions of tracks recorded by Tricky in 2022, previously unreleased BBC session tracks recorded with a full live band in the autumn of 1995 as well ‘Black Steel’ performed live at Glastonbury that same year and it concludes with some rough monitor mixes.

Tricky in an interview with NME about the original songs: “I wanted to take them
somewhere else. I’ve had so much love over the years that I have to put some effort into
it, the people deserve that. I’m very grateful for the support I’ve had all these years.”

The album was named after Tricky’s mother, Maxine Quaye. She suffered from epilepsy
and was placed in hospital when Tricky was just 12 months old. His grandmother took
him into her care.

Tricky decided to name the reissue an reincarnation. Around the same time
he received a call from a cousin in Tipperary, saying he knew of a box containing
the only known photograph of him and his mother together. That box was found
with their great-grandmother, who lived with family in Colorado. That photo is now
on the cover of ‘Maxinquaye (Reincarnated)’. “It was meant to be”, Tricky said.

Thirteen years ago TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS
released their 12th LP, titled MOJO.

On 20 October the album will be reissued on limited edition red
vinyl, available exclusively in indie retail and the Tom Petty Store.

A minor-key 12 bar blues originally credited to Sonny Boy Williamson II.
The late great Tom Petty‘s bluesy vocals and the harmonica play are
spot-on old skool.

THE REPLACEMENTS Re-Release Their 4th LP With Deluxe Box Set ‘TIM: LET IT BLEED EDITION’

THE REPLACEMENTS, the beloved indie rockers from Minneapolis, MI (1979–1991,
2006, 2012–2015) will have their 4th LP – issued in 1985 – named TIM re-released
with a special box edition through Rhino on 22 September.

The 4CD/1LP deluxe boxed set, titled TIM: LET IT BLEED EDITION, is built around a stunning new mix of Tim by legendary producer/engineer Ed Stasium (Ramones, Talking Heads) and features a collection of previously unheard tracks (Sons of No One: Rare and Unreleased) and a classic concert from 1986 in Chicago (Not Ready For Prime Time).

Presented in a 12 x 12 hardcover book – loaded with dozens of previously unseen photos – the set features a detailed history of the Tim era written by Bob Mehr, who produced the box with Rhino’s Jason Jones. Mehr, author of The New York Times bestseller Trouble Boys: The True Story of The Replacements, won a Grammy® award for his album notes to the band’s 2019 release, Dead Man’s Pop.
