THE BEATLES released their masterwork REVOLVER ,
their 6th LP, on 5 August 1966, today 60 years ago.

The sublime longplayer is regarded as one of the greatest and most innovative albums ever, with recognition centred on its range of musical styles, diverse sounds and lyrical content. It marked the group’s most overt use of studio technology to date.

Charts: #1 in the UK, USA, Australia,
and several European countries.

Pitchfork wrote in retrospect: “As they devoted more time to the studio, the Beatles’ individual voices and confidence continued to grow. In the end it’s the sound of a band
growing into supreme confidence.

The Beatles had been transformed into a group not beholden to the expectations of
their label or bosses, but fully calling the shots, recording at their own pace, releasing
records at a less-demanding clip, abandoning the showmanship of live performance.”

Turn Up The Volume: Every chord, every melody, every vocal/harmony,
every beat, every riff, every lick, every hook is just spot-on. Best band ever
in my book.

German musician and designer KLAUS VOORMANN (now aged 88) met the Fab Four in their early days when they played in bars in Hamburg. He played here and there on Beatles‘ albums as a session collaborator, but is probably best known for designing the front cover of the band’s classic LP Revolver.

For his iconic creation, Voormann was inspired by The Yellow Book,
a British quarterly literary periodical that was published in London
from 1894 to 1897.

A couple of days ago, I stumbled upon this Voormann pencil sketch for the LP.

The Fab Four‘s seventh LP, REVOLVER was released on 5 August 1966.

The 100% pure masterpiece album is the latest Beatles one to be re-released with a remixed and expanded deluxe box set following ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’
in 2017, ‘White Album’ (2018), ‘Abbey Road’ (2019), and ‘Let It Be’ (2021).

The ‘Revolver’ special edition will be available in three formats – ‘Super Deluxe’, ‘Deluxe’
and ‘Standard’. Release on vinyl, CD, and digitally on 26 October. Pre-order info here

One of the previously unheard tracks is a slow, moody, even sad version of their cheerful Yellow Submarine hit, played and sung by John Lennon, not Ringo Starr who sang on the officially released version.

The Fab Four‘s seventh LP, REVOLVER was released on 5 August 1966. Following the release of Rubber Soul the group had embarked on what was to be their final UK concert tour and following a lengthy break, they returned to Abbey Road to record continually for three months. Having been longer in the studio had paid off with greater creativity and experimentation and with John and Paul in fine form as writers. George also made his mark with three of his compositions appearing on a Beatles album for the first time.

The 100% pure masterpiece album is the latest Beatles album to be re-released as
a remixed and expanded deluxe box set following ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’
in 2017, ‘White Album’ (2018), ‘Abbey Road’ (2019) and ‘Let It Be’ (2021).

Content: All 14 tracks on the original album have been newly mixed by Giles Martin (the son of the genial Beatles producer George Martin) and engineer Sam Okell in stereo and Dolby Atmos, while the album’s original mono mix has been sourced from its 1966 mono master tape. The physical and digital super deluxe ‘Revolver’ collections also feature the album’s original mono mix, 28 early takes from the sessions and three home demos. There is also a four-track EP with new stereo mixes and remastered original mono mixes for ‘Paperback Writer’ and ‘Rain’.
