MARK LINKOUS And SPARKLEHORSE Covered An Old Cracker From Psych Legend ROBYN HITCHCOCK

10 August 2023

Mark Linkous

Mark Linkous, the conductor of Virginia band SPARKLEHORSE
left this world too soon. He took his own life back in 2010, at the
age of 47.

For all fans (including me) here’s great news. The album he was working on,
named Bird Machine, at the time of his passing, will come out on September 8.
Linkous’ brother Matt and sister-in-law Melissa have been working on finishing
the LP.

One of the tracks is a cover of Robyn Hitchcock‘s 1982 psych cracker
Listening To The Higsons
, recorded with his then band The Egyptians.

Mark Linkous heard the song when it came out and it became one
of his favorite ones. He recorded his take with renowned producer
Steve Albini. Sparklehorse’s version is infused with a lot of distortion.

At the age of 70 Hitchcock has no intention to retire. Last year, he released
his highly acclaimed 22th (!) album, entitled Shufflemania!

Natural Born Rocker ROBYN HITCHCOCK Dropped A Brand New Adrenalin-Boosting Crackerjack – Meet ‘THE SHUFFLE MAN’ Here

Daily electricity to load your batteries

22 July 2022

Singer/songwriter ROBYN HITCHCOCK who started his career back in the 70s with
psych punk band The Soft Boys went solo in 1981, canned no less than 21 albums so
far and a new one baptized SHUFFLEMANIA! – his first one in 5 years – arrives on 21 October.

Pre-order info here.

“Recorded in locations around the world over the pandemic era, SHUFFLEMANIA! offers up 10 gloriously ingenious new Robyn Hitchcock songs in just under 40 minutes – a “proper pop album” as nature intended, manifesting his signature wit, miraculous gift for melodic craftsmanship, and striking humanity in a world gone mad.”

Hitchcock: “Hello dear listener, I am thrilled to be unleashing my new record album SHUFFLEMANIA! on the world. What is SHUFFLEMANIA!? It’s surfing fate, trusting your
intuition, and bullfighting with destiny. It’s embracing the random and dancing with it,
even when it needs to clean its teeth. It’s probably the most consistent album I’ve made.
It’s a party record, with a few solemn moments, as parties are wont to supply. Groove on, groovers!”

To get us all in the right mood he just dropped
the lead single called THE SHUFFLE MAN.

An overwhelming stormer going full steam ahead from the get-go, racing everywhere
fast. No brakes, no breaks, all cylinders on, all burners on, speeding like hell for 160 kamikaze seconds with Hitchcock‘s boisterous voice rushing all over it. Big fun!

Mood-uplifting crackerjacks like this adrenaline-boosting
one are so welcome in these grim times.

Rock ‘n roll is here to stay, and so is Robyn Hitchcock.
