Happy 80 To JOHN FOGERTY

28 May 2025

Singer-songwriter-guitarist JOHN FOGERTY
was born in Berkeley (CA) on 28 May 1945.

Happy 80 to the former chief of rock legends CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL
(1959–1972 / 7 LPs). The band’s split-up was a nasty one with several legal suits of
CCR vs John Fogerty, lasting for years. Only recently he got the rights back for all
the songs he wrote.

Anyway, Fogerty started a successful solo career
(9 LPs so far) and still a one-man travellin’ band.

JOHN FOGERTY – Former CCR Maestro Scored No. 1 Hit In The US With His 3rd Solo LP ‘CENTERFIELD’ 40 Years Ago Today

Great longplayers from yesteryear

23 March 2025

60s/70s country rock hit machine Creedence Clearwater Revival broke
up in 1972 after a series of hit singles/albums. The split was a hostile
affair, everybody sued everybody.

Frontman/songwriter JOHN FOGERTY started his solo career a year later.

In 1973 he released his solo debut The Blue Ridge Rangers, but it was with
his 3rd LP CENTERFIELD that he scored his first No. 1 in the US. It went to the
top seat this day 40 years ago, on 23 March 2025.

The album is dedicated to Gossamer Wump, Fogerty said in an interview, “When I was a young kid, my brothers had a record called ‘The Adventures of Gossamer Wump.’ Gossamer Wump is a little kid who saw a big parade comin’ down the road and thinks ‘Hey, this is what
I want, I want to be a musician.’

AllMusic said: “For as knowingly nostalgic as Centerfield is, deliberately mining
from Fogerty’s childhood memories and consciously referencing his older tunes,
the album is steeped in the mid-‘80s.”
