SHARON VAN ETTEN Is A STARMAN For 70 Seconds

11 April 2022

Beaut songstress SHARON VAN ETTEN just announced her 6th full-length WE’VE BEEN GOING ABOUT THIS ALL WRONG, out on 6 May. In the weeks before she shared two
new songs that will, weirdly, not be on that album.

And this 70 seconds of covering David Bowie‘s STARMAN (which came out 50 years ago)
won’t be on it either. It’s actually the end-credits song for the new Netflix documentary Return To Space about Eton Musk and his obsession for space missions.

Only 70 seconds, but quite special ones…

Upcoming… New SHARON VAN ETTEN Album

9 April 2022

Artist: SHARON VAN ETTEN
Who: Eminent singer-songwriter born
in Belleville (New Jersey) 41 years ago
Active: Since 2007 / 6 studio LPs (new one incl.)

Over the past few weeks arresting and exquisite songstress
VAN ETTEN made me and my ears happy with two new
beauties.

– PORTA –

– USED TO IT –

Clearly harbingers for a new album. True, Sharon announced her sixth longplayer, titled WE’VE BEEN GOING ABOUT THIS ALL WRONG, arriving on 6 May. But surprisingly those new songs will not be on the album.

Van Etten: “I wanted to approach this release differently, to engage my fans in an intentional way, in an effort to present the album as a whole body of work. These 10 songs are designed to be listened to in order, at once, so that a much larger story of hope, loss, longing and resilience can be told.”

Okay, we got the message, Sharon.

Warning: The album trailer, below, can cause rapid eye movement…

When Two Golden Voices Meet You Get Magic – Listen To ANGEL OLSEN And SHARON VAN ETTEN

New sonic impulses…

22 May 2021

Two golden voices, two great songwriters, two gorgeous ladies finally met
each other in the studio. ANGEL OLSEN and SHARON VAN ETTEN have a
lot in common and admire each other (me too, and when I saw them live,
separately, of course, I fell in love, of course).

Sharon about Angel: “We highway high-fived many times along the way… I finally
got the courage in June of 2020 to reach out to see if she would want to sing together.
I got greedy and quickly sent her a track I had been working on.”

Angel about Sharon: “I’ve met with Sharon here and there throughout the years and have
always felt too shy to ask her what she’s been up to or working on. The song reminded me immediately of getting back to where I started, before music was expected of me, or much
was expected of me, a time that remains pure and real in my heart.”

The magnificent starry-eyed result of the collaboration
is titled LIKE I USED TO. A vocal gem. Made my day.

Enjoy

SHARON VAN ETTEN Contributes New Song ‘LET GO’ To The FEELS GOOD MAN Film

New sonic impulses

14 October 2020

SHARON VAN ETTEN has a song featured in Feels Good Man, the documentary
about Matt Furie, the American cartoonist/creator of internet meme Pepe The Frog.

During the 2016 US presidential election, the meme was connected to Donald Trump‘s campaign and later associated with the alt-right. Last year Matt Furie sued the users of unlicensed use of his image of Pepe the Frog on far-right themed posters.

“After watching the documentary, I just followed the feeling of coming to terms with something and tried to evoke peace through my melody and words” said Van Etten about LET GO, the new song she wrote and contributed to the docu’s soundtrack.

It’s another sweet pearl from a singer/songwriter who keeps on shining, time after time…

SHARON VAN ETTEN Covers Gripping Ballad ‘HURT’ By NINE INCH NAILS

The magnificent SHARON VAN ETTEN shared her affecting cover of HURT, the gripping ballad by industrial rockers NINE INCH NAILS from their 1994 album The Downward Spiral.

Van Etten covered the song for a special reason: “I recently spoke with Sounds Of Saving and performed a cover of “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails. Sounds Of Saving is an organization aiming to reduce our country’s suicide rate, an effort I care deeply about.”

Here’s her short interview with Sounds Of Saving and her magical performance of Hurt

As much as I love Sharon‘s rendition, my ears, my heart, and soul still prefer the version by the late great Johnny Cash. Nine Inch Nail’s maestro Trent Reznor said he cried when he heard Cash’s most touching exploit…
