Polard says in an interview with Rolling Stone that Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 movie
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (hence the creepy artwork?) and other influences
he immersed himself with in the creation of the album, including surrealism and dada.
It’s their 45th one. Yes, 45, and I need to add that Robert Pollard also has 22 solo LPs
on his résumé. That sounds surreal, but these are the incontestable facts. And it’s not
that GBV deliver mediocre work. If you check AllMusic‘s reviews of their full-lengths this century (31, that is), they gave them an average rating of 3/5.
I wonder how many albums prog-rock machine King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – so
far 28 in 14 years – will have released after a career as long as Guided By Voices, 43 years
at this point.
Anyway, here’s the lead single, called DESIGNED FOR USE.
A solid gold rocker. Hats off to GBV.
